  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Looked at their website and read that you need to be resident in this country for them to help people like me. You're lucky x

I have a cat - one year old. I love her so very much. It is literally destroying me that I will be leaving her. When I bought her I was not in this state. Not at all or I wouldn't have bought her. But I contacted a Cat protection organisation who take your cat when you die. You have to write your instructions for their care. I have written about 10 A4 pages so far. I bought a flash drive yesterday and put photos and videos of her on there from age 8 weeks to the present. I have also included all of the video clips I made of her so they understand her nature. I still have not completed my wishes for her and I am sure they only expected one page of instructions, but I need to make sure they fully know her - her likes, dislikes, habits, idiosyncrasies like for example, her cat bowl has to be cleaned after use. She hates dirty cat bowls and the same goes for her litter tray. That has to be cleaned after every use and not at the end of the day. I did wonder if she was re-homable because she is so particular about everything. It's awful. I feel so awful about the fact she will be effectively left with strangers but I cannot stay alive for the eight, nine, ten maybe fifteen years she may live. I wish a vet would just put us both down together... or something. I don't know.... :aw:
She dislikes other cats - they bully her. One attacked her yesterday evening and she is timid all in all. She even waits by the window for me waiting for me to come home when I go out... it's just too much to contemplate ...:'(

I understand.. Someone will want to be as particular as she is. I guarantee you that. My child will tell you what he wants all the time so I get it.

Same here. I wish I had an option of euthanasia where I lived, even know I have heard it is difficult to get accepted. It is my ideal way to leave this world. We all deserve the right to an peaceful exit and it is cruel how we are expected to just suffer. I have read the article you mentioned before, at least she is now at peace and free of her pain.

I'm from the Netherlands and it's really not that easy. Only like a 5% of mental cases get approved every year. There's waiting lists of two years till your first appointment and only a 5% chance of it getting approved. I am happy we have something like this in my country, don't get me wrong, but it's not easy to get euthanasia for mental health problems. Your probably have to wait years to simply get a 'no' it sounds hopeful for many people, but like I said, it's really hard to get euthanasia with mental health problems.

Why??? What is the 5%? Like a certain degree of a certain disease?

Around here euthanasia on grounds of mental illness is possible too, but just like in the Netherlands it's a slow process with a high chance of your request being refused.

Doctors are allowed to carry out euthanasia but aren't required to do so. Less obvious reasons for a wish to die such as mental illness (as opposed to obvious ones like physical illness) increase chances that the doctor might be prosecuted for manslaughter if it can't be proven the patient couldn't be cured. Add their hippocratic oath to the mix and it's save to say most rather don't take this risk.

I think someone mentioned it but the post disappeared. I have read only 1% the other person said 5% in the Netherlands of all people who get assisted suicide get it due to their mental illness. Even if my country would get a new assisted suicide law I think they would make it nearly impossible for me. Despite the fact I tried 20-30 different medications. (This is what I estimate I did not count it.)
