I used to struggle with very disordered eating. I'm more or less recovered, but still have bad moments on occasion.

I was about to go have some leftovers, and my partner made a joke like "hiss, no this is my food" and I don't know why but it just made me feel so sick. Like it would be so disgusting and wrong for me to eat anything. I got silent and walked away, and they're mad at me for my reaction. I feel like it would be really horrible to tell them that it triggered an eating disorder thing for me, because it feels like guilt tripping, when they were just making a joke and I'm blowing everything out of proportion. I don't know why something like that triggered me, but I've had moments like this in the past. Sometimes jokes or comments about eating, no matter how innocent, just make me spiral into having horrible thoughts about food. I feel really disgusting right now, and am fighting the urge to make myself vomit. I hate this feeling of being so sensitive that a stupid joke makes me want to relapse. I don't know what to do about it.

Simply explaining that the comment triggered you due to your struggles isn't guilt tripping. You're just explaining how you feel and why you had the reaction you did. Guilt tripping is manipulative and this is not that. If you feel able to I'd definitely talk to your partner about how you feel. It's better than keeping it in🙏

Personally I'd just be open with them about it and seek support from a psychiatrist and psychologist.

People get upset with me until they know the full picture of what happened.
