i feel like the people on sasu are the only ones who get me, ive come across people with similar interests and thoughts as mine. i also wanna help other sasu members through trying times (as savior complex-y as it sounds, i really do feel for the people here) and be part of the community somewhat.

but i wanna keep my outside identity divorced from sasu... i feel afraid even sharing my interests, my name, and anything else other than venting about my problems (i even make sure to keep it on the private thread) and talking about suicide would out me even if my social media presence is virtually nonexistent. i dont want anyone within my proximity to know about my sasu activity

i feel like ive said too much already and that my digital footprint is ruined

That's understandable and pretty responsible tbh. Idk, I've kinda stopped caring abt my digital footprint. Wouldn't change much in my case, if ppl knew I was on here

I think anyone who has some cybersecurity knowledge will agree, so you're not that paranoid.

My general rule of thumb is "as long as the information cannot be used to identify me irl, it's ok to share". Some examples of things that are ok/not ok to share are:
- Name: irl name is not ok. Fake name is ok, always use pseudonyms or a generic name you're comfortable with being called. Your initials may be ok, as long as we have no way to confirm whether it's actually your initials.
- Sharing interests is ok, as long as many people in the world share the same information you give out. For example "I like chess" is ok, "I am strong at chess" is ok, "I have 2048 elo on lichess" is not ok because the exact elo number (and the chess platform) narrows down too much on who you are.
- Sharing **any** irl picture you took is not ok. Geoguessr players and other OSINT experts can very easily tell where you are from it.
- Sharing your country… it depends on what's your purpose and what other information you've shared, personally I'd refrain from sharing it. However it's easy to roughly guess what part of the world you are at e.g. continent, estimated time zone, culture, so it's ok to share some of these, as it's difficult to pinpoint your location/country/whatever with confidence.

Minimizing your digital footprint elsewhere helps as well.

At the end of the day, we come and go. We either leave this forum by the bus, on our own foot, or we stay as lurkers. Frankly, humans are horrible creatures, there's too many bad individuals. There are supportive people as well, but in my opinion, being able to spend a little bit of the time I have left to talk to some of you, before seeing you off on whatever comes next in your life, is good enough for me. I don't have to know who you are, and you don't have to know who I am. Just know that nice people like you (and hopefully me) exists is good enough.

Sort of the same in that I've kind of stopped caring to some extent. But then that other, so I get overly paranoid and care a lot.

Definitely do not give out your name though.

But I always find any meaningful connection Here is based upon sharing experiences and interests and such. When someone "gets you", even if it's just a tiny part of you, it's worth it

so far, i think ive done alright with the bullet points youve given me. the only thing i worry about is my vents which may come across as hyperspecific. i feel like some people i know personally could identify me if they were on sasu as well.

im pretty worried since i do know some surface level cybersecurity stuff but my impulses and general desire for the most convenience usually overtake all careful precautions. meaning i act before i think. for example, i didnt use a vpn upon registration. i think my actual ip may be logged in some sort of database forever. i did the basics though

i would likely ask for a ban once i ctb. i dont want to be featured in any media, or have my identity linked with sasu. ive seen some unfortunate cases wherein sasu users deaths have been used to push pro-life rhetoric or just exposed without consent. i just want to pass with no fanfare

i also feel the same sentiment with wanting to spend my last moments with people on this site. i know there are malicious actors (like with every platform), but im glad to know that there are earnest individuals. i hope your journey is peaceful and you find some sort of enjoyment with interacting with us

I mean logically that makes sense so I wouldn't call it "paranoid" or anything too out of the ordinary. At the same time, I feel like you don't have to go into specifics when making connections from this website. The world is huge so idk if someone would be easily findable as long as their "sasu" identity is a bit separate from other spaces. Like for example, I would never share my full name to anyone unless i got super close with them, but I'd be fine with sharing my nickname or a pseudonym, as I don't think that would come back to bite me.

I agree with this, although country is dependent on the specific. A country like the USA is so vast with large internet access, there is probably is no issue with sharing that (and its very guessable as ctwc said).

I think you should be fine sharing vague details with people you meet on here on separate platforms as long as it isn't too descriptive, just use your discretion.

Side note, I finished Z.A.T.O a few weeks ago I love your Asya pfp

i don't think you CAN use a VPN on registration can you?.. if i remember right you can't use a VPN to register, but you can use it after that.. i think it's probably to help prevent bots from making tons of accounts and/or people making accounts again that have been banned or some thing..

that's understandable really, some individual makes me a bit unsafe here, hence why i started a new account. but i think a lot of people would understand if you don't wanna be too specific here, just share your online name and talk like usual without sharing personal information. i feel like i don't share too much personal info when talking about my interest too (?) and maybe stick to sasu's chat instead of changing platform at all. just be careful of who you talk to!
