I'm taking a gap year and I'm desperately trying to get a job. I feel so stuck and my parents don't give me any money so I can't do anything and I cant go anywhere because I can't even afford public transport. I want to learn a guitar but I don't have any money, I want to learn how to drive but I can't even afford £23 for the theory test, let alone a car or driving lessons. I wanted to go on holiday or volunteer abroad like everyone does in their gap year but I can't even afford to take the bus. I can't afford a £40 gym membership and most clubs require a fee. I feel so miserable. Everyday for the past 3 weeks I just sit in my room and cry and regret making such a stupid decision. It feels like I'm living a total nightmare and needless to say I'm so so bored. I don't have any friends and my family just ignore me apart from when they want me to cook or clean. I feel so hopeless because you can't even buy SN in the UK and that was my chosen method. I can't imagine wasting a whole year of my life for this and it's already been a month.

Being broke af I try to take the hobbies I want to do and make them free to do. Going to a gym is nice, but can definitely be done at home as all exercises don't need to be done the fancy way, and applied strength is better anyways. Now I can't attest for the UK but in the US there are free tires p much all over the roads. I've filled them, made them weighed and made my own lil gym with buckets and other items. Just food for thought.

Are your parents able to give you money? (having some extra, not living in poverty, etc..) or is there a specific reason given why they are not willing to help you out?

I feel exactly the same, except I'm not taking a gap year. I really wanted to, but my progenitor pushed me to go to college. I'm currently waiting to hear back from the places I applied. I'm supposed to start in January. Until then, I have just been sitting in the house with my thoughts to keep me company (and they are quite horrid company). I can't get a job, despite apply for 4 years at this point. I don't have money to go anywhere, and I have never had an allowance my entire life. I cutoff all my irl friends, and the ones I didn't have moved away, so I have no one to go out with. I completely understand how you are feeling, and I am practically going insane inside this house.

I have occupied myself with free to do hobbies, or by making hobbies that require money free. Youtube has been a good way to find ways to make these hobbies free, and get me into new hobbies. You may not be able to learn guitar at the moment, but you could use a free DAW (digital audio workstation) and free plugins to make music without an instrument until you can save up (if you have access to a laptop or computer, but there are even mobile apps thag will let you do this). I hope you can find ways to do the things you want to cheap and easy. I hope you can find a job, and I hope you can make the best out of your gap year. Best of luck.

They refuse to give me any money for anything because I'm 18. They have the money because my brother goes to private school they just refuse to give me any

I'd like to clarify that I'm doing a bit better now. I have work experience next week which pays £450 for the week and I've applied for another which teaches customer service skills. But it still kind of sucks how I can't really do anything I want to do
