Keep your head down, don't cause trouble. Don't get on ANYONES bad side, staff and patients included. Piss off staff and you'll loose privileges and they may well restrain you and/or chemically sedate you, which happened to me 5 times among all of my stays and I don't believe I will ever recover from the trauma of it. Stay of other patients good side or you'll get fought, luckily that was never a problem for me as I tried my best to stay distanced from them. Make friends with people as it makes it easier, but don't get too attached or too close, that will just get you in bigger trouble, keep it superficial. If you do want help, be honest with them, they may be able to find you resources faster than being outpatient. Don't try to do anything stupid, such as an attempt or self harm, while inpatient, they may again restrain you and you may end up on one-to-one, which involves them watching you do everything, including showering and using the bathroom. I lived that dream for months during multiple stays.
