This at least holds true for the subforum politics and philosophy. I mostly know bachelor students but also some master students. Even at a university with good reputation.

I am not sure why. I am not sure whether the people I met at college were just lazy. Looking at my marks I was often among the best students and the average marks were horrendous. But most of it was just memorizing shit.

I did not have the feeling politics was the passion of these people. It was a job they did. And they were not much into it in their Private lives.

I am not sure whether it is gen-z or whether that's just a Stereotype.

It is just a feeling I got from interacting with them.

It could be a combination of selection bias and a difference in the type of engagement with the subject.

A college friend joked to me half of the students are enrolled for the purpose of getting "Kindergeld". It is a payment of the government to Cover parents the costs for raising kids. And you are only eligible to get that money if on paper you are actively enrolled in University or you are engaged in training.

The truth probably still is between your answer and the answer of my former friend. He ghosted me...

I don't get the same feeling. People here consider Wikipedia a reliable source for political or controversial topics. This place is also full of radicals who are only interested in slogans and vibes.
