  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

Today in the news. There was a knife attack in a train by a mentally ill refugee. I could imagine he has to spend his whole lifetime in the forensic. This guy possibly is not responsible for his illness. I can fully understand that he is locked away in the forensics. However I find it very unfair that these people are not allowed to ctb. They are controlled and surveilled 24/7. In a documentary I have seen many people there try to ctb (with barely any good methods)
I just imagine. I had 2 psychosis in my life. I never done anything dangerous not even a little bit. Though I think if I did something dangerous for other people I would now live in mental health prison without the possibility to ctb.
This is for me like the ultimate hell. Also in prisons there is a percentage innocent there. I think at least I have the freedom to ctb in contrast to them. It is very difficultto ctb but in the prison/forensic it would be nearly impossible for me. I have heard stories about the methods there. I would probably end up permanently damaged. In that case I would be even in a greater hell.

It is not a popular postion. I already got negative feedback. I am just defender of the right to die. There already is barely the option for assisted suicidein this world but this is prohibiting suicide at all.

The main iussue with this is that other inmates would force many people into "assisted suicide", so they would in effect be murders. If someone has life without parole or so many years that it goes past their life expectancy maybe there could be an option to petition the court about this, but I think the end result would be the same- a lot of people would be forced into this by threats against their family, etc. by other inmates- I think often as extortion plots- once you can't keep paying them to be alive, you'll have to go. Unfortunately there are already extortion issues behind bars and this would make it a lot worse.

If it was something that could be talked about openly in society and you could opt to go and be humainly euthanized at your local council run site it would be a much better world because people would get a chance to say goodbye to their loved ones properly. Various institutions would have less over population and save money and everyone (cherry on the cake) would not have to fear a suffering end. It's so logical that it's infuriating.

Obviously you couldn't just rock up there and get dead. There would need to be a reasonable screening process. I reckon maybe the opportunity to wave the screening process with a donation to charity or community might be a good idea but would be a bit of a potential opportunity for abuse. They council./gov might make it really hard to pass the screening so you need to pay. But that would need some proper discussion obviously. If it was up to me I wouldn't allow paedophiles and murderers to opt for uthenasia instead of a prison sentence.

An interesting thought, but we won't see anything like this in our lifetimes.

I agree. It's thoroughly messed up that suicide is so stigmatized.

I totally agree. Any kind of incarceration would be like torture to me, death sentence looks more humane than this. Prohibition of torture as a form of punishment in this society is a lie and hypocrisy.

When you see documentary footage people in prison it's not the full story and even then it's clearly serious torture. People in cells filling their toilets to block them and flood it. Self harming to get moved or medical attention because they're not getting what they need. You can see the crazy welling up in them from isolation and pressures put on them from other inmates during any brief time they're freed from their cells. I've seen it chanve people first hand. People come out different. Guarded and less chatty is the least of it. Just a mild indicator of the damage you don't see. And they were only locked up for daft teanage errors like getting caught with a few pills and selling to mates so classed as dealers when there's full on money laundering and big time organised crime syndicates that have bought up all the local shops and appear on the surface relatively legitimate. They get away with so much! Then there's the people in big business and parliament who take the absolute piss and can afford to pay their way out of prison in hand with the preferential treatment and expensive defenders. Fucking ass backwards!
I'm sure they'll get a blind eye turned when they're on their last legs heading over to dignitas. That's if their private doctors on permanent reserve don't do it for them at home and fudge the paperwork to say they died of natural causes.
Oh to be privileged!

The private prison system atleast in the US will never allow such a thing cause how else will they make money. The US has the largest prison population in the fucking world and they still call themselves the 'FrEeSt' country in the world.

So true. And they are brutal places and big businesses meat markets. They should treat their commodities better!

Some prisons in little war toen counteies or "third world countries' (never really liked that term tbh) have the worst peisons. The inmates run them essentially and they have firearms and all sorts.

Where ever in the world they its clear they do not work.

Some people try to get out of conviction on grounds of Insanity, even if they are mentally competent.
The irony is that, so I'm told, facilities for the criminally insane are often worse than regular imprisonment.

Ah yes, the nation riddled with guns, with unaffordable healthcare, where citizens have to organise their own taxes, massive homeless population, and enormous prison population.
Sounds lovely.

People would think the prisoners are "cheating " by not completing the full sentence and committing suicide instead. I don't think it'd be allowed
