Is there any way to protect the brain with this method? Since the method is slow, there is a high risk of being found. How can I prevent brain damage?

Would hypothermia work if I kept everything but the torso clothed and warm? Wear socks, jeans, gloves, hat, scarf. The torso, naked. From what I understand lowering the temperature of vital organs is enough to cause death. There's no need for brain damage to occur. I made a scheme, the shaded parts are protected

Having map of internal organs to understand human body anatomy of printable body maps 768x1024

Will this work? Will such a setup still cause brain damage if found? The plan is to go to a secluded location at 0 C or a couple degrees lower. Drunk, and starved, which makes hypothermia faster as I have read

I really want this to work. I'm not doing it this winter though, I will give myself at least a year more to solve the problem of finding a proper location where I won't be found for minimum 24 hours, but ideally as long as possible. My country is vast so there should be a great number of suitable locations, I just don't have a car which makes physically getting there much more difficult.

I've nothing really to add constructive but I do recall a story of a guy not too far from me who was found dead of hypothermia after a drunken night out. Wasn't even that cold outside (-5 C) but I guess he got lost/disorientated on the way home and succumbed to the elements.

So it does seem it can happen relatively easily .

The brain and vital organs will have blood pumping between them, keeping their temperature nearly identical. So you can't stop it affecting the brain. Though with this setup, I don't know if blood flow will be reduced to the outer limbs or not, so I don't know what effect that would have overall with them being wrapped up. But definitely the brain is not immune

The brain is not immune, would think that a colder environment would protect it better than keeping it warmer with a hat? I'd focus more on making sure to go far enough to minimize the risk of being found. Shouldn't be that hard to go stay a night in the wilderness at a place where there aren't people. I've thought about this a lot too. I'd also get wet, this really amps up hypothermia, especially if you do this, 0 celsius should work just fine, though personally I planned on waiting -20 to be quick and sure. The warmer it is, the longer it takes. Also make sure you pass out quick enough. Hypothermia can cause some insane and really not discreet behavior that will result in an ambulance ride fast if noticed. I'd think that the extra clothing would probably not protect your brain in any significant way, on the contrary, but might lower your chances to get hypothermia that reaches a lethal point.

I was naive to think that I could protect my head with a hat, but what do you mean by colder env will protect the brain better?

My issue is that potential failure is terrifying. Brain damage + organ damage + lose fingers and nose and probably penis... not as bad as failed hanging or failed jumping but I don't want any of that to happen to me. I just get the feeling that no matter how well I hide they'll find me. Everything that could go wrong, will go wrong. Like it always does

So I'm still thinking of doing it in a more safe manner where the consequences of failure aren't as brutal. Just expose vital organs to 0 C while being drunk in a secluded location and chill out for some nice 6-12 hours

But I do agree with you that drunk + starved + wet + -20C will off you extremely fast. Half an hour and gone

The best way is to go to northern Canada in winter, at -40 celcius, you will die very quickly with spring clothing , you wont have time to suffer any injury.

That lady did it in yellowknife in october , imagine in january. Too bad they took the full documentary video from internet.

I did deliver one time as a truck driver years ago in northern Canada outside in the cold at -50 with windchill factor , we were outside like 5 minutes to unload a little bit then went inside 10 minutes to warm ourselves then back again outside 5 minutes. I was really feeling that i was dying before i entered to warm myself and i had good winter clothes. It can take less than 1 minutes if you take your clothes off in that kind of weather.

This is just a hard way to go, IMO. This Winter I made the mistake of buying some cheapo gloves. We got a short duration cold snap and a little bit of snow. I went outside to shovel the small amount of snow and was dressed appropriately for the conditions............except for the gloves. I was only outside for about 15 minutes MAX and I can tell you that my fingers were absolutely KILLING me with extreme pain. Burning, stinging, excruciating pain. I had to keep taking my hands out of the gloves and shoving them down my pants next to my legs to warm them a bit before continuing on with the shoveling. I just don't see how this can be a good method. The pain in my fingers was unbearable, and that was only from a short amount of time.

I agree with you , very painful , i prefer to die in a desert from heat, u just feel thirsty, you hallucinate then die or go in a coma before. I would choose heat over cold anytime.

I won't have to deal with frostbite at 0C°
