Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

I'm sorry you keep having this frustrating experience whenever you open up to someone 🫂.

To be fair to them, I don't think it's easy to comfort someone in the heat of the moment, especially when you can't relate to them much.
Don't take it personally, friend. In my experience, they only say these things because they've heard these little (unhelpful) comments from tv dialogue and movies but haven't been corrected on what's realistically practical and not just sounds helpful.
Coming from someone who is persistently suicidal, I don't think it's entirely obvious what helps when I'm feeling that way, but if you know how they can help you, maybe you could tell them how? e.g. "I'm feeling really shit today. Can you listen to me, please? I need to get something off my chest.".
I know it sounds heartbreaking, but at least it will help them the next time they're talking to you or someone else in a crisis 🤗
The reason why people dont know how to say/act to suicidal people is mainly because society have a complete lack of empathy. Which feels contradictory when you read in social media all posts denouncing injustice and supporting rights.

The truth is all these 'self proclaimed heros' just do this to make themselves feel better and improve their self image. Going the extra mile is something that would actually affect their lives so its better to just write it get their dopamine and forget about it.

Yeah I wonder the same myself. If I try to talk about suicide to close friends they invite me to talk with a specialist, if I tell my wife she tells me the same. I should give a try to hotline just to be disappointed also by those maybe. They tell you to talk with somebody but nobody is willing to listen and most feel satisfied after they tell you some canned responses, hell even therapist avoid the matter.

i know that this is ironic after what I just posted but I recently tried talking to someone recently on the new 988 hotline recently and they were compassionate. They obviously couldn't help me with my health problems tho but they seemed like they cared compared to the other times I contacted the old hotline. I was very surprised. But yeah. Overall it's very hard to find someone to talk to unfortunately

I think, unfortunately, people get a bit of a false signal on this. Persisting with suicidal intentions in a social situation presents a level of difficulty that someone in that position is usually not ready to meet.

Thus, from the other person's perspective, just talking about it seems to make the problem go away.

I've always thought it was just a way of catching people like us. They pretend to want to help us but really they just want to put a target on our head of 'this person's fucked up'.
