I found a lake I plan to CTB in. I hope that it's not busy when I decide to go .. because it is a rather popular camping location.

I've thought about going in the middle of the night, but for some silly reason I worry about getting disoriented in the dark - I truly do feel like doing it during the day would be more peaceful - and probably warmer .. but night time is easier to pull off.

God I can't believe it's come to this. The excitement - and the feeling of nervousness are clashing … but I know .. eventually .. I have to push through.

I had a chance last week and I pussied out. once my funds run dry, and I'm down to my last $10 for gas … I'm going

I like the middle of the night as everyones sleeping it's quiet the dark hugs you in a way hides you yet frees you. what is it about the middle of the night that you like?

If you visit or camp there maybe you'll encounter some parks crew and strike up casual conversation about how busy it gets for them, how is it for fishing, when it's less busy, etc?

I'm guessing mid week would be the least popular but in the summer they may have campers all the time until school holidays are over.

Just a thought. But it sounds like a peaceful place for sure

Definitely the peace and tranquility night time brings. All you can hear for the most part is Mother Nature doing her thing.

I do think doing it in the dark would be better than the day time , because then I wouldn't be able to see the sunlight fade from my eyes

It's definitely peaceful that's for sure. It's nestled up in the mountains, about a 30 minute drive up from "sea level" ..

sunlight you can see further tho it's not as closed in. I think naturally huamns are meant to see for hundreds of miles of just open fields of grass and mountains not a man made structor in site. there's somthing so freeing about that. Like 4.30 in the morning till 5.30 sunlight is just starting to arise and I like hearing the very first bird to wake up all the others

If the lake is big enough, this will work. It helps if it's cold, but that's not essential. On a clear night, you can ensure that you swim in a straight line by using the stars. (I'm assuming that there is not so much artificial light nearby that you can't see the stars.) Just learn, before you go, how to recognise the Pole Star. (I'm assuming you live in the Northern Hemisphere at not too low a latitude.) That tells you, accurately enough for your purposes, which direction is north.

I presume that you plan to swim so far out that you will not have the strength to return. (That's why you need a big lake.)

I agree. On the drive out here from the west coast, I loved the vastness of places like Nebraska, Kansas, … it just makes u feel so small. Do you have a favorite morning bird?

that does sound good. I don't have a favourtieby sound yet I haven't got that good but I love the ringed neck parakeet as it's the most beautiful bird we have in uk. how about yourself?

I'd have to go with the American woodcock. Or as I call it, the meep bird. Male American Woodcocks perform a fascinating display during mating season, flying high in the air and descending in a zig-zag pattern while making their "meep" calls
