1. They're curious about death and the process.
2. They might use it as what not to do with their method of ctb.
3. They want to become desensitized by death itself.

For me my suicide is very private. I would hate it to be filmed. There is an anime called Gantz. The main protagonist is killed by a train and the first that happens he is filmed by other people. This has shaped me. But I don't know if there is no other option...

It is disturbing to watch people ctb but it can help you lots. I've watched some partial hanging videos and even though I felt really sorry for those people, I was surprised because they made it look so easy!!!

Also, there was a very popular member from SS who pm specific people, including me, explaining that he would livestream his ctb and those who wanted to watch and learn more about SN, could join him.
I was there and it was a unique experience. He was quiet calm, listening to music and I would say he was even happy to ctb.
As for me, I was very sad. I didn't want him to leave but I couldn't stop paying attention to everything he did and once he drank his SN, I can't explain what I felt. The world didn't matter anymore. The only thing that mattered was this guy's life which was about to vanish and it did, unfortunately.

I haven't watched any people ctb since then. It really hurts if you have some empathy but deep in your heart you know those individuals are better off not being in this unfair world.

All in all, as long as there's empathy, I don't find people who watch other people ctb disturbing.

However gore etc is a another matter and in a world where we're here because life has been bad to then think of some sicko getting enjoyment out of such things would increase my desire to ctb and I feel would be part of the problem not the solution and be very wary of such people hanging around this site for there kicks.

What's wrong with it? Often people don't want to ctb alone. We want to be there to give support.
Some of us also want to adjust to the idea of death and suicide since we are possibly facing it ourselves.

What I find creepy is people who think there is something wrong with watching someone die by their own hand, as if it's perverted and sick. Where is your mind at? We are all human beings, all going to die sooner or later, and we are here to gather information we will need. It would never occur to me that anyone would imply it's due to some kind of perversion, and it's shocking and sad anyone here would suggest that. Disgusting.

I'm a gore addict. I would go through hundreds of pages of suicide pictures and videos. I have some bridge jumping photos saved in a secret folder on my laptop.
I know its freaking people out and Im ashamed of it but I cant help it. I'm so fascinated by the way bodies look when we are dead. At my lowest point used to take pictures of myself recreating the blank expression, pretending I died.

Its about trust, its often between someone that is a good friend to that person, and it doesnt happen all the time / publicized nor is anybody forced to watch.

I guess am always troubled by apparent social media posts of anything that doesn't feel sensitive to others pain. I dont think other people have the right to intrude or make decisions about another individual's life or death so sharing private matter to me is as disrespectful as it gets. I wouldn't ever think to get out my camera and film an accident or someone on a bridge because I wouldn't want others to do it to me or my loved ones.

There are also people left behind after suicide who just from a compassion perspective shouldn't have to come across material.

I wouldn't ever personally want to live stream my death because it is private to me and for the reasons above. If AD was legal here only a couple of very close friends would be with .

But in the year where we have had to say last goodbyes and literally watch loved ones die on Zoom, if we believe in the right to choose then for some who want very close people with them at the last leg, if it is privately shared how much does this matter?

Going to add caveats and my own very personal concerns to this. Am older, not on ANY social media bar this and can't bear violence so non peaceful deaths are simply a default no no for me .As a voice hearer my MH struggles are often around this .

What I refer to above would exclude end of life actions that could look distressing and that would include hanging. Did watch the Golden Gate suicide doc which even knowing it is a preferred method was still vicarious.

Am also a natural skeptic but am often very frightened by the casual intrusion in to our lives social media has had. And the harm caused. To counter that many I know with severe MH conditions find certain platforms the only safe space and community. And of course, I am on here getting support RN.

I was looking at last year polls on age groups using this site and as any older person will admit we hope to God that the next generation gets a better throw of the dice. It may well be for me the whole concept of social media is too unsafe because I struggle with psychosis which is a whole other issue. But I would be lying if I didn't admit that sharing and watching other people deaths when you dont know them feels wrong. And when that person is young I wouldn't be able to be the online live support they may want.

I dont think will get past wanting younger members and watchers to be able to have hope and safety in every single respect. Shreds of the idealist remains. And I simply have NO clue but many fears about social media worlds closing down the choices we have. It may be the generational gap about suicide has always been there being but now played out in public . Even more so this last year.

I find it to be quite disrespectful to the person who has passed away, watching a video of a suicide. I could never watch a video. I believe that someones last moments should be private. There is plenty of written information about suicide, there is even written documentations of taking SN, so people can know what that is like.
