I wouldn't pay too much attention to these "big names".
Many of them are service to self, rather than service to others. You can tell who the really genuine people are by whether you get a sense of love when you listen to them or read their words (eg you could try watching Barry Long).
I'll bet there are many stories of people who have turned things around who had all 4 of those issues.

However, of course you must weigh up your situation for yourself.
I just don't want you to base your decision on what someone whose primary aim is to further their own career has said....

I totally agree. Jordan Peterson is pretty whack. I appreciate some of what he says tbh but a lot of stuff is whack. I believe nearly everyone can be helped and things can change. Whether or not things do change and help is available is a reality, I respect everyone's decisions, just Jordan Peterson is whack. Eckhart Tolle is cooler!!

I mean, I also know of the video you're talking about, and he's saying these things to encourage you to do these things. Basically, you're not fucked unless you're high-function and still depressed. So basically, you still have a chance at happiness if you get these things.

Jordan Peterson isn't far right lol. I'm no JP fanboy but I do think he is right about some things.

I'm going to find the video because I too would like to be discouraged even more. I mean, I would've been easily redeemable in my mind over a year ago but a chronic health problem lead to an isolation problem (no friends) and an addiction problem and soon to be a flunked-out-of-college-because-suicidal-thus-no-job problem so all of this hit me so fucking fast it made my head spin.

I'm a prostitute and I've given up, feeling trapped and have low functioning borderline personality disorder. I could only get by bc prostitution makes it easier to work as much or as little as u need so budgeting and planning is less crucial wen u have more control over your income. Otherwise I'd likely be homeless or bad living situation. Probably no car I could maintain. I would like to remain living alone and working for self making enuf but good luck with that w the issues I've got. I may seem intelligent but my coping ability is very low, I'm inflexible and rigid. Actually I'm a high functioning borderline I read the differences between high and low functioning. So I'm able to manage bc I make enough money but not in a socially respectable way, but I suffer in many areas of life and my job certainly is a problem. Because I'm high functioning I wasn't landing in the hospital and could hold a job but it felt like it was torture when I did have legit job I was so bored and often in trouble. Walking out of jobs. Often tardy, struggling to control my rage and mood swings at work. It took so much effort to try to control myself at work that it I couldn't justify the torture especially for low income. If at least the money is great I can put up with some torture at work lol!

He's a professor of psychology I believe. There are a bunch of his lectures on YouTube. I'm sure he has some good advice, but the human experience is far too broad to make sweeping statements like the one that the OP quoted. Every human being is different, with different neurology, living conditions etc.

Not to mention the entire field of psychology/psychiatry is one you should be super skeptical of. If it was a legitimate medical field, suicide and depression rates would be going down as the field progresses, but that isn't happening.

I got interested who the hell is this guy a few months ago (last summer) after seeing a lot of references.
At first, he sounded interesting.

But the more you listen to his lectures, the more you understand he's just a cult leader type.
And I dont care if he's "left wing", "right wing" and all of that bullshit.

He's found his gold mine: he's good at crafting his ideas and uttering them, he talks fast, literally barraging you with facts, metaphors, like a machinegun. Ta-ta-ta-ta-ta this, that, do this, dont do that, ta-ta-ta-ta-ta.
2000 years ago he would probably had become another "Jesus", 1500 years ago he'd be Muhammed, 19th century - some crazed mormon leader, 1980s - televangelist, 2020 - Youtube star.

People, especially the lost, the broken, the vulnerable are keen to follow whoever talks to them in this personalized, mentoring, intimidating, manipulative manner.
Nothing is new under the sun.

Hell, I don't even want to go deeper and tackle his ideas, he can say whatever he want.
Just listen, analyze with your own reasoning and move further.

He's a very intelligent man but he also is a sensationalist who uses easily misinterpretable statements to deliberately start drama all over the media,then show up to interviews to explain how that was " taken out of context " thus creating PR campaigns for the books he sells. Everything modern day thinkers who make a living our of their work is a truth wrapped in a lie or lies wrapped in a truth.

I don't have meaningful relationships nor a job, but that is not the reason I want to close the book of my life, because what makes a life worth living is different for everyone...
