I want eternal nothingness. My worst nightmare would be reincarnation. I don't want another life. I don't want to last for an eternity because that sounds like hell. I just want it to be like I never existed. I've experienced nothingness before during unconsciousness and I desire for it to be like that permanently.

I firmly disbelieve in any kind of afterlife and I'm very glad of it.

Could you imagine repeating a life like this forever where even the suicide could save you?

I don't believe in anything, simply put.

Imagining all kinds of possible "afterlives" does not touch me in the slightest. It would be like a videogame, nothing more

I want to live again, in better circumstances, but that's just wishful thinking.

There might be something more to this, who knows? I'd prefer nothingness but there's always this "what if" lingering at the back of my mind.

I also would find this acceptable, hoping never to have to repeat this suffering we go through and cause ourselves and one another.

For me, either an afterlife of bliss where no boredom nor suffering is present, we are overwhelmed by love, like some ideal drug high with all those who loved us, if we were lucky enough to be loved in this life, or if not, where we simply are love, would be the only acceptable form for me, despite in my masochistic and more judgmental mindsets seeing some sort of temporary, rehabilitative punishment being possibly acceptable, but no reincarnation, please.

And no existence, well, that would be fine also. Like going under anesthesia or when you sleep a dreamless sleep, or before we were born; at least, I don't remember that time despite what some religions may claim of our existence before our Earthly existence. Still, the supernatural intrigues me but I am quite skeptical of it all.

There is no sound reason or evidence to believe that an afterlife exists, its all wishful thinking and man made notions.

I know I've been pretty shitty to a lot of people in my life, and I am not considered a Christian by most Christians, and that's the majority religion around here, though that doesn't make it any more credible than any other religion. Most people are afraid to think of the supernatural with any rules or religious framework, sort of a la NDEs if one believes those have any supernatural components, but they are awfully inconsistent and relatively rare it would seem. I can see the appeal at times of how someone dying for another would be an ultimate act of love (although, why not live for one another, why this angry God who needs to kill His own son, or wait is it Himself lol, to atone for His wrath?) and well, you know all the theological back and forth, we all do here I suspect.

I hope so, part of me feels that way too. I really hope if there is an afterlife, there is only Love waiting for us, or at least, much more love than we thought. Perhaps those suicides that are successful means whatever Creator or force that may exist, has welcomed them home, and those that wake back up are not ready yet, but why the agonizing suffering of say, gunshot suicide survivors who are kept alive on feeding tubes or anything for years? Locked in syndrome? it's all quite inconsistent, thus taking away from evidence of supernatural for me. Still, the phenomenon of sentience in each of our bodies is an curious thing, to me this seems otherworldly, supernatural, but that's just a feeling. Why am I here in this body at this time and born where I was? Sort of thing.

I was a religious christian person. I heard once a priest saying that god let some people suffer which is an evil (going to hell) for a greater good.
I don't approve knowing that a lot of people become bad or commit crimes because of that suffering.

I see, that's so depressing indeed, and seems to be the mainline reasoning I've heard from many Protestant Christians in the Midwest, at least some of the more conservative denominations. They're basically like, "Well because there is a Heaven that is eternal, there has to be an eternal Hell," they have this bipolar all or nothing BPD splitting psychology thing I don't know, it's terribly dismissive and unempathetic to me. I've encountered some very unempathetic and authoritarian Christians, more of them than the empathetic ones I feel. the only Christianity I could really get behind it seems might be Unitarian Universalism but it seems too good to be true compared to what the Bible seems to say. Meh.

If you read the afterlife thread you will realize that the existence of an afterlife makes no sense in the same way something popping into existence from nothing or something always existing makes no sense. Yet we can conclude that something did in fact either pop into existence from nothing or has always existed.

The existence of an afterlife wouldn't make sense to us and all evidence points toward the contrary which doesn't help. That doesn't mean there isn't one.

I think there is fairly good evidence that consciousness survives bodily death. But I don't have any idea what the afterlife is like, or if there's any sort of unitary afterlife or countless utterly distinct afterlives. This ambiguity is frightening. I would prefer guaranteed oblivion to a completely mysterious afterlife that could be an unrelenting hell. Given the latter possibility, many people don't seem to realize how optimistic the idea of oblivion upon death is. You know what they say about things that are too good to be true.

Me too, for eternity. Anything pleasurable or enjoyable comes at a cost, to me it's not worth that cost. I'll have the nothingness forever like I never existed, I've even told family if I ever die don't bother with a funeral just get on with your life like I never existed in the first place. I'm not bothered about being someone, my ego is in tatters.

well it would be amazing to live an afterlife that is perfect (heaven) but we know that's a lie and death is the end of our existence, let's just accept this bitter truth just like we accepted our bitter lives.

Death being the complete end of my existence is not a bitter truth to me it's more liberating, prior to this I have around 50 or so years to get through should I opt for natural death.

very funny.
oh you're serious??

Yes. I'd go into more detail but I know from experience that the internet is too full of dogmatists on this topic for any productive discussion to take place.

This "it will be like it was before I was born" idea has always seemed fallacious to me. We don't know how it was. Maybe it was something horrible, or amazing, and we just don't remember. Also the very idea that anyone can comprehend or "experience" nothingness is bizarre. Everything we know and understand is because we are conscious, even remember blank periods like sleep or surgery is because we wake to recall. Nobody can truly understand what non-existence is.

"Anyone who doesn't agree with me is automatically a dogmatist." Now that's irony. Note that I didn't say you are a dogmatist (I don't know anything about you), only that I know from experience that people who are dogmatic about this issue are common enough online to make it impossible to discuss productively.

As soon as you die 21 grams are immediately released from your body. I believe this is your soul. I'm a Christian and apparently I will go straight to hell if I offended myself. Why couldn't I be a Muslim so I could be radicalized do some heinous shit then go to paradise and then always be revered.

Read the criticism section here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/21_grams_experiment#Criticism

The 21g experiment was sketchy and has been blown up into a pop culture thing. I am all for the hope we are more than a bag of meat, but stuff like this just makes people with hope look silly.

Midwestern American religion is the weirdest flavor of Christianity. They seem very caught up in their fire and brimstone and miserable interpretations. IF there is a god I would bet everything I have and am he is nothing like those weirdos think.
