  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Some people here reason of suicide is that we are mortal. They dont like the fact that we all die one day. It depresses them. I dont feel that way at all. I think if we were immortal the world would be a true hell. Imagine if the rich stayed alive and the poor stayed alive for eternity. I dont understand people who oppose death as if it is a bad thing. I dont mean prolifers. I mean people who feel suicidal because there is such a thing as death. Imagine how unfair it would be if rich people got to live forever as rich people and poor people stay poor. It would be utter nightmare

So people want to ctb because the thought of dying depresses them. That does not make a lot of sense to me. Of course there is nothing wrong with mortality, the fact that we will all die eventually is a comforting thought. However the life expectancy is too long and suicide is very difficult as we are programmed to survive. The society denies us a peaceful exit. Those are the things that I have a problem with.

The idea that we're going to stop existing one day and everything that constitutes us will vanish and there will be no us, just like before we were born, can make some people feel discouraged to do anything, because, in the end, it will be as if nothing ever happened at all.

I had an aunt who always looked down on anyone who didn't have a highly respected job. Now she is dead. What remains is nothing. I think so often when I am dead it is as if I never existed.

i agree it does not make sense to me either but I did come across people on the forum who mentioned the inevitability of death as a source of depression and suicidality for them

Living forever sounds terrifying. Even if the conditions would be however good. Think about it, life gets pretty boring when
you are 1 million years old and even then there is no end in sight.

I'd want to die even if I wasn't prone to suicidal ideation. I'm kind of worried even death may feel like something, some part of us remains "alive" and keeps track of time. Maybe we won't feel anything or sense passage of time, but parts of us remain existing, atoms and whatnot. How long does universe last and in what form?

If the perception of time would continue to increase as you are get older Imagine how fast time would go by. Eventually years would go by in what used to feel like minutes.

You mean it should decrease because if it increases then time will feel slower

I guess I do think that it is another negative fact about life that you *must* die and that there are such things as a natural lifespan and aging and all that shit. The fact that I'm eventually gonna die of old age no matter what I do gives me zero comfort. It would be better subjectively if it was up to you whether and when you want to die. I'd rather not be forced into anything. Though what kind of a society that would give rise to is hard to predict. Probably something even more hellish than what we have now.

Sometimes it is a choice between dying quickly, or drawing it out over decades. Anyone who has a genuine purpose or quality of life would not think along these terms, but not everyone seems to have that privilege.
