In researching over the counter medicines to help me handle my seizures I came across an article that stated Tylenol or the generic form known as Acetaminophen helps to relieve symptoms of depression.

It has helped me. It's not a miracle cure but I thought that I would mention it in case people wanted to give it a try and see if they also find some relief from it.

I'm hoping that this over the counter remedy can help those on this forum to feel better and to lift the fog of pain and depression so that you can think more clearly and help you to make a decision.

Whether that decision is to go through with your plans to end your life or to try and find help and solutions. Whatever you feel is right for you.

Just thought I'd pass this along.

I use a generic brand of Acetaminophen that I bought at Walmart, 500 mg capsules.

Of course you can also opt for Tylenol too.

I take one 500 mg capsule with a meal and then I take another 500 mg capsule before bed. I don't take them on an empty stomach.

If you decide to try it I really hope it helps you. You take them along with a few Advil or generic Ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is supposed to be helpful too.

Hope all of this helps.

I'm sorry if I sound redundant based on my other replies but I hope this over the counter remedy helps you.

Aspirin helps me for some reason, but one must be careful with the blood thinning properties.

Thank you FuneralCry.

I don't know if you have found anything that gives you any relief. If not I hope you do.

It's hard to find relief. As someone said, science and medicine have done much better with the human body than they have with the human mind.
Thank you.
Wishing you well, wishing you all the best.

Pop 2 Benadryl and you'll feel drowsy and your depression will go away.

I wanted to follow up with you to let you know that I have cut back to 500 mg a day (with a meal).

I took two 500 milligrams yesterday and woke up with negative effects.

But then again I have temporal lobe epilepsy so it may be different for me.

You may want to start with 500 mg at first and see how you do. I don't want you to have negative effects.

You can also use the all natural amino acid L-Phenylalanine, between meals, not together with proteins.

Thanks for sharing this information! Anything that can help someone and is cheap is certainly worth trying.

I really wish science was further along here because none of the antidepressants do anything for me, and I have tried a lot. The one thing that has helped is tramadol and I've been on it for years without becoming an opioid addict.
I used to take 100mg 4 times a day and went through some really stressful stuff. In the midst of it, I realized, wow, how come I haven't felt suicidal through all this? The only thing that was different than other times when I got seriously depressed and suicidal was the tramadol. I've always had the occasional bad day of course, but nothing persistently active suicidal until my tramadol dose was cut.
It was originally my rheumatologist who prescribed it but several years ago I moved and couldn't go to him anymore. I found a new doctor who was willing to continue the treatment I was on and all was good. Then, COVID happened and my Dr. got it severely and ended up closing his office. I started to ween myself down, knowing I may have to wait awhile for a new script. Once I got in to a new Dr., I explained how I would have run out if not for doing that and he took it as great, now you don't need so many. So now the most I can take is 3 times a day. I've addressed my depression with him and his answer was to put me on duloxetine. I swear it is making me worse!

Acetaminophen is obviously much easier to get so hallelujah for that! They're making tramadol harder to get and it sucks. There are legitimate uses for it and if you're interested, here's a link to more info:

I agree. Psychiatric medications are not always the answer, to say the least. They help some people but not everyone.

The feeling right now is that science and medicine offers more solutions for the human body than the human mind. (Science and medicine are way behind when it comes to the human mind.)

Thanks for the information about tramadol. Thanks very much.

I hope you find Acetaminophen helpful, I hope it gives you relief.

Thank you! I'm so glad acetaminophen has helped you!

Interestingly enough, Ultracept is a prescription that combines tramadol and acetaminophen. Perhaps any 1 alone, or the combination could bring relief to more people.

I have no actual in depth knowledge about this but have read similar things, regarding inflammation relationship with depression and by proxy antiinflammatory meds. I'd just be wary of liver and stomach issues with long term use. I used to take very regular aspirins for chronic headaches and that hurt my stomach in the span of several years that is. Nowadays I can hardly take painkillers besides acetaminophen without causing stomach pain.

I would not use IBUPROFEN or Motrin or Adil----Google 'Heart risk and NSAIDS'----Increasing risk of heart disease or stroke if used each day---But Tylenol and Acetaminophen are perfectly ok to use instead

You definitely know your own stomach better than I do but I just did a search and supposedly brand name Tylenol - rather than genetic Acetaminophen - is supposed to be, for the most part, safe for those who have stomach issues.

But, like I said, you know your stomach better than I do.

Right that's what I mean, Acetaminophen is the only painkiller I can take and it's a bit weak compared to other less stomach friendly ones, that's why I think it's better to use meds for the worse days, regular seems less sustainable long term, sometimes you could use something stronger.

Probably because it's an anandamide reuptake inhibitor, anandamide is a happy neurotransmitter
