I'm personally not interested in therapy and I don't know which country you live in. But yeah searching for a therapy place / appointment can be such a great pain!! I agree with it. I hope for you to be able to find an earlier appointment should you really want to give therapy a try!

That's simply bonkers ... Therapy also has the issue that you need to jive with your psychologist, so finding a right fit in that system sounds impossible. Oof.

Have you maybe considered a psychiatrist instead? Also a huge waiting line? At least drugs are more impersonal than therapy, even if they are a scarier/more extreme version.

Waiting time is 6 months.
It would be better if i failed a cbt in public, spend a month being drugged in a ward and then get 5 minute talks with whoever was screwed to be in residence that day.

Did something like that before and it taught me to never ever do it again.

I have heard that after covid, therapy practice just does not functionally exist anymore. Practitioners have either burned out and left or gone nuts themselves.

Just an idea to try if you're interested - I couldn't find a single therapist in my city (also short on services) so I expanded my search for therapists outside of my city that would take telehealth patients. Doing telehealth meant I wouldn't have to drive 1-2 hours, but searching outside my city gave me more options.

I'm in this mess because I threatened suicide when I got fired. Not my brightest or proudest moment. I'd been having suicidal thoughts before hand. So I lost it.

Welfare check happened, told the cop the truth, he drove me to ER, they sent me home because I didn't have the means and an immediate plan, but mentioned I "researched" it which so weird never felt so interrogated and called out (I told them I had considered partial drop but I hadn't tested it, purchased ropes, nor were my affairs in order, apparently knowing specific terminology to them is a red flag)

So in order to not go to the looney bin I had to fill out a safety plan and call resources, I called for a gp but I have to see a new one because they can get me in august 3rd and my actual would take 3-6 months

Waiting time is 6 months.

I'm sorry that happened to you

And I got lucky, got a therapist and psychiatrist quickly in early 2021, but quit going, both no longer work at the place I go to. When I worked at a group home we had a client who could not get a psychiatrist, it was nuts, she was off the rails

It's so dystopian! I've had so much difficulty getting a therapist (in the US with public insurance). I was ghosted by so many people and kept getting the same exact advice to use the same online therapy listing. But no one I outreached from that source EVER got back to me.

Then I was put on a waiting list at a hospital outpatient clinic because (I was told) my trauma was too significant for just any therapist. I was actually told I had to wait to be matched with someone competent. Shouldn't they prioritize people who are the most vulnerable instead of pushing them to the back of the line?

So I got no therapy, lol. I ended up grateful to see the first person who gave me an appointment and they sucked. I stuck with them for months, just because it had been so hard to find them. I recently started with someone who seems much better and I hope you are able to find someone good, too. It is ridiculously hard.

If you read my thread further i was told to call to mental health resources to avoid a psychiatric hold, and yet they're booked up for 10 months

That's the point I was trying to make, you go thru a crisis, told you need therapy, and then have to wait forever

Therapy sucks and has never helped me to begin with, and to add assault to injury the system is broken. But it's suicidal peoples fault for not "trying hard enough" cuz "help is out there"

Lol

Therapy is a complete waste of time anyway. You are lucky you have not been conned into it.

It will be tell me about some BS and then try these pointless activities before next week.

They are not your friend, they are there to make ££££

Like I don't already know that

My point of this post is that suicidal people are told they're selfish if they don't get help, when services are short changed, and that's not even getting into if they'll actually be effective or not.

How are we supposed to get help in a broken system

Sasu is better than most therapy I have experienced. Here people ACTUALLY know what you are going through and what works and what doesn't when it comes both to recovery and CTB. But If you think therapy would help, I encourage you to keep looking.

Same, I'm hoping to find a doctor that can see if I can qualify for an fmla (family medical leave act, an American law that allows for unpaid time off for disabilities). I had a nervous breakdown and I ended up getting let go due to not performing proper job duties lol 😂 the ability to take a stress leave would be amazing if needed so I could prevent that kinda stuff from happening again

I've had the same experience with therapists. I can't be honest and open for your cited reasons. The only thing therapists are good for is as glorified social workers, they can help you navigate practical resources (like the fmla which I probably qualify for)

So my current issue is that I got fired and my insurance will be over at the end of the month, so I'm not calling other places until I figure out my current situation. The place I called does sliding fee scale and helps people in financial binds.

I'm not really looking for advice so much as pointing out the absurdity of pro-lifers telling people help is out there when mental health resources are stretched thin (especially since the pandemic as another poster mentioned here). They're booked up, many in the profession relocate (and their new office may not take your insurance), and good luck affording it if you have shitty insurance. If you're on Medicaid good luck getting someone good. Have fun finding a therapist that fits (it takes multiple times on average). And good luck being honest unless you want to gain 50 lbs on psych drugs or get locked up.

Pro-lifers do not care about truly ending social ills or suffering. If they did, they would be rallying for congress to revamp the entire mental health system. Instead, they advocate for forced holds on people and guilt the suicidal or anyone else who's fed up with this bs system.

It's pretty crazy. "Oh yeah, don't kill yourself, just get therapy!" Sure, let's see when the next appointment is. oh, 4 months? yeah I'll just wait patiently. Not.

The only worth of a therapist is to use them for social resources. My sisters therapist helps her with applying for financial aide and college. I had a therapist refer me to the adult protective services when my mom was being exploited during a psychosis (and we won the case).

When it comes to telling them how you really feel? Yeah. Forget it.
