I can't even cope with making a doctor's appointment, things are that bad. So I phoned NHS 24 instead. And they said nothing helpful at all, and just ended up telling me to make an appointment with my doctor, even when I told them that I can't even cope with doing that!

I've got nobody to turn to! What do I do now?

I'm sorry you are going through this. I understand that it is hard to carry on when you cannot cope with this life. I know that it can be a dreadful feeling when everything seems hopeless. I wish you the best.

I can't schedule my own appointments either because of my social anxiety. I tend to involuntarily 'freeze' during phone calls. I'm so sorry to hear you're going through something similar.

I've lived in the UK for a while, and also noticed that when I signed up for a UK GP. All the scripts I had translated to English by my offical and signed doctor were refused. Even in the chemist, if I was buying diazepam they looked at me like a junkie. I started to use BUPA insurance so I didn't have to deal with local GPs. I'm sorry you feel like that. Is there any way you can get a private doctor? And in the chemist same thing can you come back in 20 mn and I was like, no I wait. After 5 mn they would call me. I'm Like why do they do this? Never saw that anywhere.

I'm probably being very cynical here but I'm convinced the system is set up to make us worse so we end up ctb = money saved.
A few weeks ago I was completely desperate. I knew it would be pointless calling GP, nhs 111 are a bunch of idiots. So my only option was A&E. I would have gone, I managed to hold back. But if I am in that state again I will not hesitate to go.

The NHS mental health system here in the UK is mostly terrible.

I remember being at A&E once for something unrelated to my mental health and there was this guy next to me at reception.
Being next to him I overheard his conversation, he basically had tried to kill himself and rang up 999 for help and they said they couldn't help and go to A&E, and the person was so dismissive of the whole situation and didn't seem to give a damn and just told him to wait.

I was there for about an hour seeing a family member, and on the way out I saw the suicidal guy was still there just sitting outside besides the entrance just crying his eyes out.

I've met a few people in the system who do genuinely care, but there's not many.

NHS is under resourced. They dont have the capacity to deal with everyone for medical conditions, especially with the pandemic its worse. its sad too when you hear about drs and nurses ctb due to stress of workload.

Is there anybody retired docs in your Immediate community that might help? Some of those people are Frank and dearly wish to help sometimes, out of knowledge or just love of helping and medicine. I wouldn't know about financial arrangements.

It came to mind since they don't keep waiting lists obviously anymore but have the knowledge, they might help?

Don't give up, I feel you are resilient.

They do have the resources. The consultant psychiatrist jobs are advertised at around £100,000, and they are complete scum, don't even understand what they prescribe, and just want you gone by any means. The Prime Minister is on £84,000. The problem is mispending on this scum for their medical qualifications instead of spending on people with the right attitude. The NHS doesn't care about you because they are so fixed on treating depression, anxiety etc like a physical illness with tablets or at best useless mindfulness and puzzle books, lying about you, and then wanting to get rid of you if that does not work.

So, the PM's salary modestly lower than what one would expect is the only remaining bit of common sense in the country?

I do have the same impression. Never been to the UK, but random samplings of reviews on psychiatric cabinets show how many can't even set an appointment, because their doctor's office is rude beyond contempt, or is always absent.

You can't just hire randoms to do a psychiatrist's job. They need to be qualified medical practitioners who can refer patients, prescribe medication etc. Looking on the NHS site, most of the consultant psychiatrist jobs are advertised for £84,000-£114,000, probably based on experience. That's a lot of money, but unfortunately that is what the market has decided the pay should be for that job under our current economic system. 80 grand for the PM is not really comparable: first, you don't need any training or qualifications to be PM - you just have to have gone to the right schools and licked the right arses. Second, the minute you stop being PM you can walk into a 7 figure consultancy gig anywhere in the world, so the low pay is worth it.

A lot of graduates with my degree go to work in the NHS and the pay and competition for skilled work is shocking. For a clinical scientist position, you may have two vacancies per 200 applicants, with the pay being no better than an average office job. The hours seem to be stressful and brutal too. It's no wonder many people simply don't want to work there when they know they're going to be worked to death and treated badly.
