  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I'm trying to prepare myself for March 2023, which is when they allow patients with mental illnesses to apply for medically assisted suicide.

I was wondering how I would navigate this process, and maybe use this as a resource thread for others. Thanks.

Woah I've never heard of this and looked it up and what a good thing! It's definitely a step in the right direction for Canada. Wish there was something similar being implemented in the States.

I'm pretty sure there's going to be a lot of requirements, testing, past and future treatments/assessments/drugs prescribed etc..

I've talked to a few people about MAID and it seems as though people are expecting to be eligible just because they have depression or anxiety, when I doubt this will be close to the case with MAID. I suspect any mental illness eligible for MAID will have to have been attempted to be treated in other ways for years prior. I very much doubt it's going to be as easy as it sounds to be accepted.

Agreed, and hopefully it will be available one day. As I understand it, you would be eligible for MAID with dual citizenship.

Yes they are pretty strict even for people who have very painful conditions and bad prognosis so its not going to be available to most who suffer from waht they consider to be 'treatable' mental illness. They are going to likely require you to try and fail meds and treatments as well as therapy. I would imagine they are going to look for strict compliance with meds as well as long term use.

There will be a lot of safeguards and it won't be as easy as it looks.

I'm Canadian & almost positive I'm eligible, but I suspect that my family doctor & psychiatrist are pro-life a**holes who wouldn't support me in this. I'm also afraid of the repercussions if I inquire about it with them.

I think this whole process of doctors/psychologists' ambiguity process will soon be replaced by AI. We know our body best and exactly what we want, so just hope the future programmer/coder is in pro choice side, a lil bit harder though because what is in the best of our suicidal interest is a nurse that is willing to inject rather than any doctors who decide. But probably at this stage, a bottle of nembutal approval is more important than anything else. Who knows what the future might have to offer ...
