• Hey Guest,

We wanted to share a quick update with the community.

Our public expense ledger is now live, allowing anyone to see how donations are used to support the ongoing operation of the site.

Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

The truth is, the answer to that question is going to vary, person to person. It depends on why you're drinking, what "need" or "want" alcohol is fulfilling for you (need for community/soothing loneliness? Unhappiness and dissatisfaction with life? Boost of confidence or easing of anxiety? etc, etc), how you could fulfill that need with alcohol, what your driving motivation is for wanting to stop...........

There's no one-size-fit-all solution, though it can still help to get advice/insight from other addicts. We often share common struggles/needs. Maybe try out some common suggestions, and meanwhile try and introspect, think of what ways, even tiny ways, you can improve your health and your life.

(To use myself as an example; my life was absolutely miserable, I was living in squalor and chaos. I felt like an animal trapped in a filthy cage, so of course I was drinking constantly to escape it. But recently, I cleaned my apartment, organized everything, and put up some small decorations. It sounded so meaningless, so stupid before I did it....... but I swear, afterwards I've felt so much more alive, and the urge to drink has lessened a lot. It didn't solve my deeper problems, but if those are too big to deal with, especially while sober...... then focusing on tiny improvements might help.)

There's promising research on GLP1 being used as a quitting aid.

Admitting you have a problem is the first step. I'd start by speaking with a doctor if you can.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say there's some underlying causes as well. I'd STRONGLY suggest therapy.

Quiting anything much less drinking will essentially radically alter your life and you have to be behind the wheel for every step. No one will do it for.

A word of warning.

***

I'm not sure what state of addition you are, some people who've drank for years have seizures when they try to quit.

Some people die trying to, because they're so dependent.

These aren't words to put you down, but as a heads up. You should speak with a doctor first and foremost.

If you need it do inpatient but, be warned it's going to suck. If you cannot afford it or can get away with it, see if there's out patient options first.

7 years clean here. You have to absolutely know that it no longer serves you. Admitting this in a group setting of some sort helps, such as AA. (Did take time to stop thinking about it).
