I have his email address but I don't know how to contact him specifically.

I imagine I can't use my personal email. Is the proton app okay to message him on? Do I also need to use a VPN?

Talking to D isn't illegal, but I would still be careful about leaving trails behind that could get you into trouble if Customs intercept your package.

I'm using protonmail created over a Tor network run from a Tails OS.
