Cool. I'm early 40sMid-to-late 30s here.
Thanks for replying my friend. Interesting to know. I get scared about helping young people to die here, it's asking to become a target of pro-lifers in and outside of the police. Those of us who are older don't attract so much attention when we pass. It's not seen as quite so tragic66 years young

So you're not in your 20s? LolI don't like talking about my age - it's just another reason for people to judge you I feel. Whenever anyone asks I just say I'm in my 20s.
That means I'm in my 20s - no need to read into it.So you're not in your 20s? Lol
Sorry. I just figured...That means I'm in my 20s - no need to read into it.

I might get hate for this, ... No wait, I almost certainly will. But I dare say this site should be 25+, not 18+. Apologies to the younguns but they just need to try to fix their lives for a little longer before I risk helping them to die. I understand their pain, I really do, I was there.I can't help but think that for some of those youngens its almost like a Goth thing to come in here. I exclude people with medical or psycholigical ailments from that, but having a hard time at school or breaking up with your boy friend should not be your entry ticket to Grim Reaper's party. Not at twenty years or younger.

so you don't think suicidal ideation is a product of "psychological ailments" ?I can't help but think that for some of those youngens its almost like a Goth thing to come in here. I exclude people with medical or psychological ailments or an abusive background at home from that.

That's so sad :(Well, and what do you tell the 17 year old street hooker who gets raped by her pimp after having been abused by her dad all her life? Come back in a year or five?
I would love to find some min. standard for CTB. For me nothings that's temporary in nature - like a broken heart - warrants permanently ending your life.
But you can be sure that anyone trying to set one up like that would face immediate backlash from both sides. No love stricken teenager accepts the advise to just take a cold shower and go party again.
And when my 82 year old mother went to a bungled surgery they resuscitated her despite her patient will stating clearly that they shouldn't. And 40 minutes later she was declared dead again.
She died with nobodyb holding her hand on a cold metal operating table and she couldn't stand the cold.
With all my powers of attorney stacked up high I could not convince those doctors to allow my mother to die peacefully in her own bed.
It kinda is sometimes, no offense to any kids reading this. To any kids reading this, things can get better. You just need help.so you don't think suicidal ideation is a product of "psychological ailments" ?
yes, i'm sure joining a suicide forum is just teenagers being teenagers!
eh. i agree that it takes some time for the brain to fully develop (i'm assuming that's why you mentioned 25+) but i still think it's a poor idea to gatekeep this forum; just because teenagers tend to be more impulsive doesn't exclude them from experiencing legit mental illness and trauma and the need to process thoughts/feelings around suicide in a safe space.I might get hate for this, ... Fair enough. I just wish would gatekeep suicide itself to non-impulsivevsuicides of the young, of which there are undeniably too manyeh. i agree that it takes some time for the brain to fully develop (i'm assuming that's why you mentioned 25+) but i still think it's a poor idea to gatekeep this forum; just because teenagers tend to be more impulsive doesn't exclude them from experiencing legit mental illness and trauma and the need to process thoughts/feelings around suicide in a safe space.

Genius idea. That would totally fix the issues and keep the vast majority happy. SS should SO do that.as thinking about the other day is separating the methods and stuff from the actual suicide forum. So let 18+ people go on the suicide forum and vent and talk - because it really is a helpful place. But ban method talk. Then have a subforum that allows method talk and stuff, but make the age restriction higher, or require ID or whatever have you.
Because at the very least it would be teenagers, and everyone would have a place they can speak about their feelings without feeling invalidated. And a lot of people have said that it has helped them mentally.
And for the people that are older, or verified to be above 18 or 25 or whatever, at least they have access to another forum where they can get their methods. Best of both worlds.
It's a fantasy though.. It would constitute money and more hands on deck. But it would be nice if it happened. I definitely understand your sentiments. But outright banning youngings from this forum is probably not going to have the desired outcome. But I think it's irresponsible not to acknowledge this problem in some way.
Mods need to archive this poll result unless they know how to deal with its publicityThe idea I was thinking about the other day is separating the methods and stuff from the actual suicide forum. Utterly horrific and cruel. I'm so sorry you had to go through this.Well, and what do you tell the 17 year old street hooker who gets raped by her pimp after having been abused by her dad all her life? Come back in a year or five?

You obviously didn't read my whole post. May I suggest you do before we continue this conversation?so you don't think suicidal ideation is a product of "psychological ailments" ?

So many kids are just in an awful, but temporary situation. Should they be given help to CTB? I think no, they should be given help to get out of the god damned situation. Even homelessness is preferable to this kids often which is why they run away. It's understandable
