Thanks for replying my friend. Interesting to know. I get scared about helping young people to die here, it's asking to become a target of pro-lifers in and outside of the police. Those of us who are older don't attract so much attention when we pass. It's not seen as quite so tragic

I can't help but think that for some of those youngens its almost like a Goth thing to come in here. I exclude people with medical or psychological ailments or an abusive background at home from that.

But having a hard time at school or breaking up with your boy friend should not be your entry ticket to Grim Reaper's party. Not at twenty years or younger.

The unfortunate thing is that "pro-lifers" will use that to target the whole concept of "pro-choice".

Well, and what do you tell the 17 year old street hooker who gets raped by her pimp after having been abused by her dad all her life? Come back in a year or five?

I would love to find some min. standard for CTB. For me nothings that's temporary in nature - like a broken heart - warrants permanently ending your life.

But you can be sure that anyone trying to set one up like that would face immediate backlash from both sides. No love stricken teenager accepts the advise to just take a cold shower and go party again.

And when my 82 year old mother went to a bungled surgery they resuscitated her despite her patient will stating clearly that they shouldn't. And 40 minutes later she was declared dead again.

She died with nobodyb holding her hand on a cold metal operating table and she couldn't stand the cold.

With all my powers of attorney stacked up high I could not convince those doctors to allow my mother to die peacefully in her own bed.

So many kids are just in an awful, but temporary situation. Should they be given help to CTB? I think no, they should be given help to get out of the god damned situation. Even homelessness is preferable to this kids often which is why they run away. It's understandable

eh. i agree that it takes some time for the brain to fully develop (i'm assuming that's why you mentioned 25+) but i still think it's a poor idea to gatekeep this forum; just because teenagers tend to be more impulsive doesn't exclude them from experiencing legit mental illness and trauma and the need to process thoughts/feelings around suicide in a safe space.

The idea I was thinking about the other day is separating the methods and stuff from the actual suicide forum. So let 18+ people go on the suicide forum and vent and talk - because it really is a helpful place. But ban method talk. Then have a subforum that allows method talk and stuff, but make the age restriction higher, or require ID or whatever have you.

Because at the very least it would be teenagers, and everyone would have a place they can speak about their feelings without feeling invalidated. And a lot of people have said that it has helped them mentally.

And for the people that are older, or verified to be above 18 or 25 or whatever, at least they have access to another forum where they can get their methods. Best of both worlds.

It's a fantasy though.. It would constitute money and more hands on deck. But it would be nice if it happened. I definitely understand your sentiments. But outright banning youngings from this forum is probably not going to have the desired outcome. But I think it's irresponsible not to acknowledge this problem in some way.

You obviously didn't read my whole post. May I suggest you do before we continue this conversation?

And being suicidal is *not* normal, for if it would be than people be dropping dead left and right. But cancer isn't "normal" either, yet people still get sick from it and some of it is incurable.

I am not sure where the damn stigma about psychological ailments comes from and why specifically the people suffering from it are so hesitant to talk openly about it.

But I know I am broken inside, I admit I am bi-polar, depressive with tendencies for auto-aggressive behaviour. So what? I tried to get help, both for myself and for my ailing mother. All I got back from the system was a "learn to look the other way" advise for me and a truckload full of paperwork for my dying mom.

Some of us are stuck in a place of hurt and pain w/o an escape and then it shouldn't matter if the agony stems from the lower intestines or the frontal cortex. We don't force animals to go on living no matter what, so why humans?

More than that. Julian Assange will be serving far more time behind bars than your run-of-the-mill s.o.b abusing his own daughter. And w/o a job and a steady income, what is such a kid to do but to sell her body by the roadside ... or ctb?

Lofty speeches pay no bills and no rent either.

We can *easilly* spend billions of $ to subsidize big corporations or finance stupid ass wars thousands of miles away. Or trillions to fly to Mars. But for some bizarre reason just getting the elevator repaired in my mom's nursing home took almost eight months. They finally fixed it the week she died.

Our priorities as a society are messed up and as much as we love crying about roadside prostitution or homelessness caused by mental problems, other than turning it into ideological dribble or make some movie about it, next to nothing happens to actually reduce this form of suffering.

But behold if a Wallstreet banker bets on other peoole's houses and loses that gamble. Then you can see politics spring into action within hours!
