How many of you think that genetics play a major roll in who we become? As well as upbringing of course..

Genetics are major.
Environmental - very little impact in either direction unless you've been heavily abused growing up.

Agree.
If I didn't look like me, if I wasn't shaped like me, my life would have been very different.

Honestly, both have me in the state I am now. So neither really matter, in my opinion.

I believe the answer is that it's always a combination of factors. The ratio of genetic to other factors probably varies based on which aspects of your life are under consideration. In any event genes are always part of it.

For me the main factor was environmental, much as I'm aware there are other factors that made my life worse.

Both genetics and environment play a role but I think at least for me genetics play the more greater role. If I wasn't short and deformed I won't be here.

I think one's nature can influence to what degree nurture has an impact on them. Then again, the environment has ways of manipulating nature too.

I think the scientific consensus right now is that both genetics and environment play major roles in determining how we turn out (something like 60% genes 40% environment). Genes and environment also interact (epigenetics). Crucially, our genes and our environment are both factors we don't control.

Any abuse involving crossing your private boundaries as a child,
rape eg. Any repeated physical violence growing up.

By the way, on the topic of environmental impact, I believe we need to be clear whether it's environmental such in home environment or do we mean in a broader sense, outside of that?

I'd agree. Which doesn't necessarily mean you're doomed to be who you were in the past. Who we become is also significantly shaped by changing environmental circumstances. Change the circumstances, and you often change the balance of the biological traits that predominate.

This. If it wasn't for my environment growing up, the 'bad actor genes' within me would never had a chance to become a part of my behavioral makeup like they do now.

Some people are disadvantaged right from the start through no fault of their own, due to factors that are out of their control. In this life everything is determined by luck. Of course genetics can be a big factor in determining our life experiences, but the environment we live in is also an important factor.

Well, some people don't really get affected by genetics. Random mutations on genes.

If you grow up with your natural parents there is a positive feed back. If people are allowed to choose their partner, both parents will be similar regarding intelligence and success. So intelligent and successful parents will have intelligent children and rise them in an intelligent and wealthy environment. Of course there are exceptions, I am talking about the statistical average.
