With a shotgun, most people would only need to pull the trigger once. I prefer using a handgun, and if I don't aim for my head, how many times would I have to shoot myself (in other places of my body) to die?

One shot to the heart will work eventually. But why not to the head? less suffering. After one shot I don't think you'll be in the mood or state to fire again. Sorry you want to CTB, I hope you've considered it fucking carefully!!! ❤️

You will only get one shot due to physical damage.

I understand. Thank you for the reassurance.

Thank you, that seems very likely so.

I agree, you will Most likely just have 1 chance at taking a shot.. although it does depend on where you aim and how determined you are to actually die. I wish you nothing but the best. ♥

I'd have to say a couple things
1. Don't count on being able to shoot yourself more than once if you are using a semi-auto
2. Shot placement matters, especially with a smaller bullet.
3. What caliber are you using? 9mm? 10mm? .40? .45 acp? .357? .38? .380? Etc...
4. The type of ammunition would also make a difference.
Full metal jacket? Hollow point? Jacketed hollow point?

Hollow point would be the way to go, and if you have the option .357 or 45 acp

If you shot yourself in the arm, or thigh, more than likely you would be able to shoot yourself again. But why? Theoretically, you could shoot yourself in each arm and each thigh and hope for a bleed-out. You probably will bleed out. But why go through that? I don't know what type of gun your using, but small caliper may allow for clotting, which could thwart your attempt. I honestly don't see the rationale behind doing it this way. 😕

I'm planning on using a pistol, probably jacketed hallow point ammo. As for shot placement, I plan on shooting into the heart.

How does this sound?

I would say if it's a shot to the heart there's a good chance you're only going to get one in. And if you don't have a good sentimental reason to do a shot to the heart. I advise shoving the gun into your mouth and point it upwards. However, one shot to the heart should kill pretty fast if your aim is right. Even if it isn't, if nobody comes to your rescue you will most likely still bleed out, but that would mean a painful death. There's also the chance that you miss the heart, and have chronic pain afterwards because someone rescued you.

Saying you're going to use a pistol doesn't answer what caliber. You can get 9mm pistols, .45 pistols, etc...
Shooting in the heart with a jacketed hollow point would cause a good size hole in the organ

Keep in mind you have a skeleton designed to protect your heart. Apparently it can be quite good at even deflecting bullets...the firearms megathread has a lot of good info in the first couple of pages.

PS dig your pfp - Angel's Egg, very cool :sunglasses:

I would advise against shooting yourself in the heart. Shooting yourself in the head is much easier and produces a painless result (As far as we know, even if it isn't painless, only for a second supposedly.) Put the shotgun in the roof of your mouth at a 20-degree angle, and fire. This is to destroy the brain stem.

And if worried, use a double barrel, pull both triggers at the same time. Use number 1 buckshot.

Yes, the ribcage and the sternum is one hell of a bone wall. Although, shooting from a side angle could avoid the sternum, it still has to pass through the ribs themselves.

Last time I checked, the lungs apparently also cover the heart itself quite a bit?

(and thank you for the compliment for my pfp, Angel's Egg is such a fantastic work of art)

Sorry for the late reply. Which caliber do you think would be suitable for a gunshot to the heart?
