I like asking questions abt trivial stuff, it's calming in a way.
I know German, English, Russian and I'm learning Chinese rn, but I doubt I'll ever be fluent, Chinese is just on a different level of difficult. I started learning it just for fun and prob bcs I needed more distractions

That is super cool that you know three languages!!!

Spanish is my first language and I learned English when I moved to the U.S when I was 11 (:

I've heard Chinese is super difficult but the fact you're still learning it is awesome (:

That depends on how you define "knowing" a language.

My first language is Russian, but I am also completely fluent in English, with the latter probably being better at this point. Those are my "primary" languages.

I used to be fluent in Polish, that was my second language, but I lost that ability after my preteen years. I am fairly confident if I tried and actually put the effort into it, I could regain it back.

Then there is Belarusian and Ukrainian, which I can understand roughly at a 60% or so mark and can read, but not speak.

Lastly we have French and German, which I have taken in Junior High, High School, and University (German only in University). I can understand some words and see why the words are written the way they are in a sentence but nothing more than that. I didn't really try at all with those two tbh, thats why.

So in total 7 languages (albeit in very different degrees of fluency and understanding)

True, knowing languages can mean different things, I guess. Bcs of the fact that I know Russian, I've also noticed that I understand Ukrainian to a certain degree as well. Even other Slavic languages, but only to a very small extent, some of the words are just similar. And I mean technically I took Spanish in my school and I know a few phrases and can understand a little bit. Well generally I can sometimes understand texts in any Romance language, bcs I had a Latin as well and I actually liked that subject

I think you wouldn't have a hard time with German. In my experience it's easier to learn for many native Russian speakers than even English

For me, it was relatively difficult, yes. It took patience but after some months I learned Hiragana and Katakana okay. But learning Kanji never worked out well for me, sadly. I used worksheets to practice writing and used language learning apps like Drops.
It was still enjoyable to learn even if I had a hard time with Kanji.

It's great that you tried and enjoyed it. Rn I'm only using Duolingo and ChatGPT to learn Chinese, but mby if I ever get serious with it, I'll look for a tutor

my first language is Chinese, and my second language is Cantonese, but I'm not as fluent in Cantonese as I am in Chinese. now I'm learning English.

as a native speaker i also think Chinese is genuinely difficult and quite complicated. I hope your learning goes smoothly and that you continue to enjoy it :)

I like Polish, it's a cool language. Why Arabic?
I think Arabic sounds really beautiful, and it would also be quite useful to know some Arabic here in Germany. It would definitely be something completely different from the languages I already speak.
