• Hey Guest,

We wanted to share a quick update with the community.

Our public expense ledger is now live, allowing anyone to see how donations are used to support the ongoing operation of the site.

Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

Do we know how many people have gotten the support they needed from SaSu before CTB

I don't want to glorify it but I am still curious

I feel I have lost a few friends here and I hope they have found peace

Goodbye threads seem to be what you're looking for. You can find them if you have search bar access, or by typing "site:urlhere goodbye" onto your search engine of choice.

I've read some reports by papers like NYT or BBC that around 50 confirmed. But who knows how they got that information and if they are reporting the truth. The number sounds very low given the user count is in tens of thousands.

I mean, people could fake it, but why would they? If someone's inactive after their attempt for weeks/months/years it's as good of confirmation as we can get unless someone who knows the user IRL has an obit.

Alternatively, they could have used a risky suicide method which made them end up be in a vegetative state where they are alive but can't use SS. In my case, if I were to attempt any suicide method even if it's something that causes no permanent damage like SN, I don't think that I would ever be able to use this site again since I know my parents would make me be their prisoner and they would watch me 24/7 to be extremely overprotective. Anything could happen to somebody after an attempt that could make them not be able to use this site

Statistically, some of the "goodbye" threads here are going to be fake. However, there have been a few deaths attributed to this website that the media have confirmed. As well, some people leave enough information in their threads that their obits can be found with some google searching, which has further confirmed some deaths posted about here.

But largely, "goodbye" threads will not have proof and it'll just be up to your judgement to determine if they were real or fake. Suicides happen all the time and are often not reported in the news. Getting confirmation about a death here is the exception, not the norm.

Also some people do fail attempts but still able to use the site and so could make more goodbye threads in the future for their next ctb attempts. Going through the list of goodbye threads to see if they survived their attempt is going to take quite a bit of time as well as the potential things of what will happen with a failed attempt have said here will mean we will never know an exact number of people who do catch the bus.

50 confirmed may only mean the number they could be certain. They might estimate the number is higher but can't confirm

I'm not sure fake should be in the context of. Goodbye thread. Just because they did not CTB it may have had the full intent of CTB but failed the attempt.

They maybe embarrassed and not come back
Has anyone tried to keep track of goodbye threads for the purpose of numbers of CTBS and some how projecting a number

I don't know how you'd calculate the actual number, but there's probably been countless people saved from making very bad CTB attempt mistakes from this site, which is why this site is an important asset. Take me for example - I was going to hang myself with a very flimsy tie from a bathrobe and people here told me what a bad idea that was. It was this site where I actually got a link to a proper rope ideal for hanging.
