I got one, for playing 'squares' with a friend in a science class. To be fair, the teacher warned us to stop before they handed out the detention. I was weirdly irritated that they put it down as noughts and crosses rather than 'squares'. As a scientist, I thought they'd have closer attention to detail. I also only felt partly responsible. If the lesson hadn't been so boring, we wouldn't have needed the distraction! It still felt frightening though. I wasn't used to getting into trouble.

I remember eventually, you needed 3 detentions to not be nominated a prefect. I eventually started to wish I'd gotten more! That was such a con- they effectively got us to do teacher's jobs during break times. But, without any authority! We had to 'man' the doors over break times. We could have done with riot gear! It was insane. People would run at the doors and throw themselves against them. I dread to think what it's like now. They probably pull a knife on prefects now.

Get me Out

Most of my detentions in school were totally not my fault as they were from the stupid group detentions which actually happened quite a lot. I often cried during them as I was always scared by teachers being angry or disappointed in us and that I just wanted to go home as school was torturous for me. It just felt like pointless unfair suffering for just existing tho sometimes me crying lead the teacher to allow me specifically to leave early. Only one I can remember being my fault really is once forgetting my PE kit and even then it was just for 10 mins cus I was seen as a good student. Me being a good student allowed me to not get detention when it was my fault actually from things like the rare time I forgot to bring in homework. I was very careful and anxious about always being good so I didn't had to suffer from teachers angry or punishing me and so I could go home. I really couldn't handle school at all.

I was late to health class several times. I was paddled once, and then given a detention another time. I could not stay for detention because I would have no way home, so I got a day of in-school suspension.

On my day of suspension, I was quiet and did my work. There was one boy in there who did nothing but disobey all the rules and curse at the teacher all day. At lunchtime the teacher sat at the table I and another student were. She asked me why I was in there, and I told her. Apparently I was not at all the typical kid in her day... more were like that cursing boy. I felt sorry for that teacher. The boy continued all afternoon until the last hour, when he switched and started begging her to let him out of suspension... which, of course, she wasn't going to do.. so he went back to cursing at her.

This was in 7th grade I believe. Flash forward about 10 years... several years after I had graduated high school... and one day I'm watching a story on the news of a gym teacher who had been arrested for selling drugs to kids at school. It was the teacher that had paddled me for being late to health class that time.

Turns out that's a microcosm of society... people who dish out punishments are often the ones skirting the rules in much more harmful ways.

It's weird when we hear about teachers later on. I don't envy them though. I think some children csn be very intimidating.

I was in detention quite a bit. I just wish it would have been like the movie "The Breakfast Club".

My only detention was because I forgot my belt in my gym locker in the second to last period before the day was over, and the teacher in the last class gave me detention and wouldn't even let me go get it.

Not sure what type of lesson she thought she was teaching. She looked and behaved a lot like Angela from the Office

3 and all were for too many late homeworks. I wish I was more interesting but I went to a really boring school. I remember we had to write out a homework timetable but we had to leave it in the classroom at the end so what was the point exactly? I spent most of it just doodling in the corner of my paper. The final one was during the GCSE period and all I remember is being made to do revision. I don't remember if it was for late homeworks but I assume it was considering I have a terrible track record.

A ton.

I've never been insanely rebellious, I did fuck around and experiment a little as a teenager but not too crazy. But for some reason me being a child with ADHD bothered teachers so greatly so I'd get detention for not having my mom sign my planner or not focusing or being "rude".
