How long does to take to die when hanging? I know it matters by method so I'm using a scarf and it's mainly hanging me by the front of my neck although it is tight. I've read it can take several minutes and that just sounds brutal.

You lose consciousness in less than 20 seconds and die between 15 and 20 minutes

What's the difference
Full hanging is when you are fully suspended by the rope i.e. no part of you is touching the ground. Partial suspension is when you push down on the rope, and you are still touching the ground. A successfully carried out FS hanging will be more painless and faster than a PS hanging, but it is hard to achieve. For that reason, PS is more often used.

Is there a consensus on what to do those first 20 seconds? Hold breath?
I spend all day in misery yet still fear those 20 seconds more than anything. I wish it was painless so bad.

Do You mean with a full self hanging being harder?
Aint it mainly cause you need a sturdier rope and anchor point?
Cause fsh seems easier to me cause the rope will be around thr top of your neck anyway and you hsve your full body weight

From my experience, finding the carotid sinus helps a lot.
There are barroreceptors there, which in response to high blood pressure, respond with drastically lowering the heart rate and blood pressure, you can get to passing out within 30 seconds of pressing them (from my experience)
You don't need to obstruct the wind pipe neither hold your breath, to me, it's quite comfortable, as you just need to press on the higher, part of the carotids (where the pulse is stronger)
