How do you react to a pm from a stranger on here?

Was wondering how you guys react/reply to private messages from members you don't know.

If I got one, I would be afraid of what they're after so I would most likely not reply until a day where I feel confident enough. It would also take me a while before I can trust someone if I do engage in conversation.

It's something to do. Perhaps they liked something you said. Just like anywhere don't give them personal info. No matter what they can't 'get you'....so either respond or don't.

It's completely your choice how and if you reply to private correspondence. It's a matter of personal preference. Do what feels comfortable and safe for you.

I welcome private messages but there are certain subjects I will not engage in, and specific details I would never share. I am admittedly awful at keeping up-to-date with my messages though - I still have some from a long while back that I have been meaning to reply to.

If it makes you feel very uncomfortable, it is possible to disable PMs in the privacy settings. In the "Allow users to" section, scroll down to "Start conversations with you", click on the drop down menu and click "Nobody", then "Save" at the bottom of the page. This will prohibit other members from sending messages to you in future.

I don't know how to respond to PMs no matter what site I'm on. Being singled out is a weird feeling, but I try to respond anyway. I have always preferred to get to know people in a group or public setting before talking to them one on one, because as soon as I talk to someone privately, I feel like I'm on a blind date. Doesn't matter who you are or why you approached me, PMing me means we're on an awkward blind date.

If someone discusses real life and tries to get to know me by asking questions about what I do in real life, it doesn't last. If someone is on board to completely ignore reality and talk about fantasies and weird interests, that's much easier. I'd literally rather divulge my darkest secrets than talk about work. Oh yeah, and I ghost anyone who asks for a picture.

I haven't been here too long so that could be why I haven't had any bad experiences yet. No one has said anything that made me uncomfortable so I have no problems responding. Obviously I don't give away information that's too identifying, but others have been kind to me when I PM'd them and I want to pass along the favour.

I am always glad to chat with anyone and exchange thoughts and ideas, How the day is going, what brought us to this point in life etc. The whole point of the room is to feel free not to be ridiculed but to be supportive of each other. And don't forget, before we get to know anybody we are strangers.

Personally, I'm pretty welcoming towards private messages from strangers. I love to talk on a variety of issues, but as with all online interactions, I will hold back on certain personal information.

As long as no one sends unsolicited NSFW pics or is harassing/threatening, I'm not fussed about PMs.

I've had two start conversations and wasn't really bothered. It was a bit odd since I don't really have much experience interacting with others, so it was a bit of a novelty to see a chat notification. They weren't really trying to get real life details or anything, nor was I.

I enjoy getting pm's I like talking to people I can relate to, but I do air on the side of caution and sometimes am too nervous to reply straight away.
