Discussion How do you feel about someone you love CTB?

I'm just wondering how everyone feels about someone they love, whether it's a friend of family member wanting to CTB? I'm torn on the fact because on one hand, it's their body their choice however on the other, it hurts knowing they want to end their life because I always want what's best for the people I love and care about.

If a family member wanted to ctb, that is their choice and I would respect that. I strongly believe in the right to die. Of course I would be sad, but I would not want them to suffer for decades against their wishes. None of us asked to exist in the first place so it isn't like we have any obligation to stay alive.

I'm very torn because obviously I have the same thoughts, but I would still always wonder if there was something I could have said or done... I know at the end of the day that there really isn't anything we can do, but I'll still always try to be there for my friends at the very least. If they still went, at least I would know that I was there for them. I am lucky in that my friends are there for me, even if I know that if the time comes they won't be able to stop me. I would be extremely upset, but I would understand. I would hope they'd at least try to talk to me first if they were feeling that way, but that's their choice.

I would make sure that it's absolutely what they want and that there is a reasonable chance they won't be able to live a normal life with their emotions intact.

I for example doubt I can ever get rid of the feeling of dread knowing I can be abandoned and not know it. I can't live like I used to anymore even if I recover from my depression. I just don't see how I can recover.

I'd be devastated that they were gone, just like any other death, but I think it would make me feel worse to think of how much they must have suffered to make the decision to end their life.

I would be supportive and happy for them, nobody should be forced to live against their will.

it hurts that someone I love is suffering so much, so I want them to have peace. but if they went before me, I'd selfishly be heartbroken not having them around. it's hard to get my head around it.
