I always feel like I just can't ask for help. There's so much in my head that I just feel trapped and I can't tell anyone. I really want someone to help me because mind is scary, I want to die but at the same time I don't and I can't work out my thoughts. Every time I try and tell someone I freak out and don't then I just feel worse. I'm a failure no matter what I do. How do ask for help?

Asking for help can be one of the hardest things to do in these situations, and you certainly aren't a failure for finding it difficult. I think your decision to ask for help here is a sign of a successful step in the right direction.

Are there methods of communicating your request for help that you are more comfortable with and less likely to pull out of? Apart from the obvious phone lines, many suicide crisis services have online chat or text message facilities.

If you are seeing a doctor or other professional in person, would it help to write down your feelings and then read it out or give it to them to read?

If you are weighing up who to tell about your feelings, remember you are very unlikely to be judged by a mental health professional, compared to family or friends who may not understand your situation.

Bear in mind that the flip-side of this is that telling a professional may lead to you being hospitalised if you are deemed to be a serious suicide risk.

It's good that you're thinking about it. If you want help go straight to a professional about it. Nothing wrong with talking to people who care for you, but they don't always know what to do, and if they don't react well you get distracted into judging their reaction. The real point is to get help.

Well, why don't you try it here? This is the safest place I know of to have such conversations.

Another thing you can try is using the search function for key words of what you're thinking or would like advice about. Perhaps some of it has already been discussed on the forum. That might help you feel less freaked out.

Don't:
1) date someone you've known for 20 years
2) get dumped
3) let the ex's friend figure out you want to die, even though you didn't say so
4) let the ex's friend's friend, and boyfriend - one a drug dealer, the other convicted of perjury and obstruction - steal her phone, and figure out you want to die: even though you didn't fucking say so
5) get raided twice
6) turn yourself into the police twice
7) almost get indicted
8) get accused of waving a rifle around yelling you hate (redacted racial slur) even though you were 15 miles/24 kilometers away

I mean. Not that any of those things happened to me. Just saying it's a poor method to broach the subject.

Honestly the same with me. I was never able to share any of it, not suicidal thoughts not depression nothing. But I've got an appointment today for a week from now with me GP and I'm gonna try and start talking about it. I don't know how I really don't.

I hope it goes well for you, it's so difficult. My Dr knows I have depression because of a long history of it starting when I was a kid, but talking about anything more like suicidal thoughts, and things getting worse and other things just terrifies me, so I know how you feel. I have an appointment with my GP on Monday so I might try and talk about things abit more. Good look with seeing your GP next week, I hope you can talk about everything you want to.

I'll have a look, I've only been on here for a few days so not had chance to look at everything yet. Thanks for the suggestion, it definitely helps having opinions from people who understand abit more

How do you ask for help with suicidal thoughts? You fucking don't, unless you wana to be locked up and have everything ripped from you
OR you can just seek support and guidance here, this forum is mostly full of understanding people, you can get help here. Non judgemental support that is

Talk to your doctor or call a crisis hotline. Maybe go to a church and talk with a priest, they can offer good advice or counsel. Or you could start by writing it here and then making crib notes of what you say here that you can bring to your doctor or someone that cares about you.

I asked for help from my best friend tonight, told her how bad things are, and she said she couldn't talk but maybe in a few days. It's sad seeing our friendship break down, but at the same time it's her right to try and live the life she wants to. I'm really considering ending it all right now. Hanging.

Maybe she just needs some time to process what you told her?
