I've not done it. But It would go hand in hand with improving at art in general, no? You get the principles of construction, and where each body part goes where then experiment with minimalism. So you take a complex image in your mind and refine it down to essential parts. I'm sure there are tons of youtube videos to practice.there is variety o pixel art; come down to style which you seek do
is it chibi ? smaller / ease
is it proportion / human proportionate ?
is it retro-based ? thus the shading use of darker colors for blending
is it dakimakura ? or maybe mix of many .
once art direction establish can refine the skill and excel
