I don't need there to be a heavenly paradise. I just don't want there to be nothing. Even if it was brief, like mere moments, like an explanation of sorts that was given to me would be enough for me to look forward to.

it is not about deception, it is about your beliefs and what your opinions are regarding life after death. I think you should reflect on what will happen afterwards and come to a conclusion, even if it is not entirely accurate.
The reality is that none of us know what will happen after death. Sometimes I like to imagine that I'll pass on into a warm, sunny place with green fields and see my childhood pets again. But if there's nothing after death, then there won't be a *me* to be upset about it, you know?
