I never felt like antidepressants actually make me happier I mean they're supposed to make the levels of serotonin in my body higher so why am i not happier? Most of them just made less emotional which does help a bit because before that I'd break down over every little inconvenience and start bawling or have a panic attack. I've tried a few from every category of antidepressants and my psychiatrist told me there's not any left for me to try because if I tried all categories then there's a small chance that another drug from the same group would help since they're similar.

I was on citalopram for 2 years, and I found that it did after a few months make me content. In some sense. I definitely felt unable to feel anything other than just either feeling content or neutral. My life felt very devoid of excitement. After some time, however, it started to make me manic and angry. Wellbutrin did the same for me except mania 100 fold. Was supposed to try prozac after those but I have pharmacophobia and the size and smell triggered it for me so I kinda just ditched antideps in general. My brain feels more fucked up now than it was before, honestly.

They're mind-numbing poison. They may make you less miserable in the short-term but they'll develop tolerance like all other drugs.

i'm in a similar position as you. they don't make me happy, but at least i'm not crying over every minor inconvenience like i used to. they just make me feel 'okay' or 'meh' more than anything. recently, i've had to increase my dosage, which only worked for a bit.

i'm grateful to have them, but sometimes it's frustrating to have to try new ssris because nothing seems to be working.

Wellbutrin ruined my life after only taking it for 1 week and under inpatient care. I seriously dont know a single person that has responded well to it.

I'm honestly not surprised. Personally, I felt better than I ever had before in my entire life for like 2 weeks, and then after that the mania got so exhausting that I became constantly angry and mentally spent. Same deal happened with my ex who had been on wellbutrin for bout 5 years. My ex is incredibly emotionally unstable and it makes me wonder how much being on wellbutrin for so long contributed to that.

They are necessary for some people.
For many people they can cause more problems in the long term than they solve in the short term.
It should be the patient's choice and the patient should be informed.

Also tried Wellbutrin and I couldn't function. I considered going to a mental hospital too. For a whole week I couldn't go to school or do anything until the meds left my body completely

They suppress the dizziness I start feeling when I stop taking them.

I would definitely be dead without them. They haven't cured my anxiety though.
