I would suggest waiting a bit longer if you're concerned about your family members being traumatized. However, I really do believe that the holidays is the best time to kill oneself. That is when ER's are most overburdened, so if you end up seeking medical help after a suicide attempt, you'll be less likely to get the help you need to survive. Plus, at least for me, during the holidays, most people in my apartment building (as well as my landlord) are out visiting family, so I wouldn't be able to get help from them if I try to kill myself. In addition, the holiday spirit reduces my anxiety about suicide, which makes it easier to attempt. My last suicide attempt was on New Year's for this reason, and in the future I would prefer killing myself on New Year's as well (I guess Christmas would work too but I love Christmas too much and want to celebrate it lol). I don't think my family would be more traumatized if I killed myself during the holidays as opposed to any other time of year because they don't really celebrate Christmas or New Year's that much. Also, my family lives a thousand miles away and I have no friends, so when I do kill myself, I'm sure my corpse will rot for a long time before anyone even finds out I died.
