I'd like to fly but my wings have been so denied

I haven't had a proper sleep schedule in five years. I'm always gaming or looking at stuff on my phone when I should be sleeping, I just like being awake at night. No responsibilities or worries. Waking up is hell. Every day is a disappointment somehow. I expect it, but it still brings me down. How do I stop this behavior.

Wake up at the same time every day. It's a really simple fix, but it requires a small amount of motivation. In theory, you should automatically get very tired and be able to go to bed earlier. Separate this from the worrying, if at all possible. The other problems will be there, with or without good sleep.

You need a routine. Even if it's entirely self dictated. It helps to have a job with regular hours, or school, but really if you spend long enough setting your alarm for a certain time every day and stick to it, you will hopefully get used to it.

Maybe set a time to shut off all screens by.
Go chill and read a book an hour before you sleep. Don't drink or eat in that time either. Anything to avoid being stimulated is what you want.

I say this like its easy.. It's not, it takes discipline, but it is possible.

My work has been unpredictable hours for a long time and I don't have much of a routine at all.

Occasionally I will get a week or so with regular hours and it doesn't take long to get into the pattern. But unfortunately it doesn't last for long!

Good luck!

Put an alarm on your phone. You won't sleep much the first days but stick to it.

I would say, wake up at the same time everyday, turn off all screens before bed and make bedroom as dark and cool as possible, do some heavy exercise indoors to be physically tired, no caffeine before bed, you can use melatonin to help as well.
