Help/advice(im new here)

Hi everyone, new to this forum(from today) I've been planning partial hanging because I have no where else to doit other than my room, sat down with my bum barely touching the floor, I bought an ethernet cable( couldn't tie it) so I bought a 5mm hemp rope, but all it does is cut into my neck and really hurt and it doesn't seem to tighten properly with the slip knot, its more of an inconvenience than a help which its supposed to be, what would be a better type of rope and thickness, I know there's loads of posts on this site about it but its so overwhelming, any suggestions welcome
