Nobody especially close to me but I knew 4 in the military. 3 by gunshot and 1 by unknown method after getting out.
I was always weirded out seeing their families tag them in things post-mortem on social media so I want to delete as much as I can before I go. Hopefully any distant friends will never find out that way.

had a very close friend since elementary school. during high school though, he always got bullied along with me but me and him made sure nothing gets to us. but unfortunately, he really started to "experiment" and get into drugs. I used to talk to him a lot before he moved since he got kicked out of his house for going to school drunk and doing other hardcore drugs.

a few years later another close friend who also went to elementary school had brought the unfortunate news that he passed away from an overdose.

strangely enough I still talk to him out loud while everyone else in my house is asleep, reassuring him that it wasn't his fault and that he will always be remembered.

RIP Tony.

I'll see you real soon man.

It was a friend of a friend. Must be 10 years ago from now. He was such a happy guy and used to party a lot with us. It literally came out of nowhere when it happened. He was away to get his MBA and suddenly my friend said that he was dead. He was the last one I suspected. At the time, one of my best friend reached out to check on me because I wasn't doing so good. I wasn't, but I also wasn't going to tell him. The only thing on my mind was "you too, huh". The proximity of suicide was kinda surprising to me. I thought I was the only one, but it didn't make me feel seen or connected, I didn't feel like reaching out. All I wanted to do was find out his method. But I wasn't really close to him at all, so I never found out.

Hello, I lost my closest friend about eight years ago. Or, close in that time. He was a popular music producer, and I never allowed to know his method of death. I was in a different country when he died, and no one told me about it. As a result, I could not see the ceremony or say goodbye properly. I had nightmares about him for years after that.
It eats me alive knowing he had been suffering so much. I only have pictures of him now, in a folder in my phone. I don't think his mother ever recovered, too.

Yes, a few.

A friend hanged himself when we were 15-16 (a long time ago.)

Another friend shot himself. We were in our mid 20s at this time.

Another friend overdosed on heroin, though I'm not sure if his OD was intentional.. He was early 20s, and I was a few years older than him.

It was painful to lose each of them, of course- but I know they all suffered their individual mental pains, and I do not blame them. Rest easy, sweet friends.. đź’™

No one close. I had a cousin-by-marriage who partially hanged himself, but I didn't really know him. My neighbor across the street blew his brains out many years ago, but I really didn't know him, either.

When I was 15 my best friend swallowed a gun. For about a year I couldn't accept it. I was convinced he was actually murder d and the he'd never put a loaded gun in his mouth and pull the trigger.
We initially bonded because we were both mentally disabled and had abusive stepdads with shit moms who allowed that abuse. Difference is his stepdad turned out to be a pedo and went to prison while mine was just an asshole. Sometimes I wonder if he had been a victim of his stepdad and I could have helped somehow. But there's no point in speculation.

He was relentlessly abused by a group of kids he lived with, they raped him, tortured him, abused him in every way then he hung himself. Rip man. He was a sweet kid, really nice when I met him.

Classmates & distant family members. The closest to me was my grandpa who was basically my only father figure for the first 4ish years of my life, but he died before I turned 5 so I don't remember him all that well.

If I can ask, i dont want to be inopportune, but how did your life change after this? Or how did you cope with it? Because im in a similar situation right now and i dont want to make another person suffer this much, so it would help a lot to hear your experience, if you want obviously.

I had a friend of many years who died in a mysterious car accident. Here's the account I was told. He was first in line at a red light on a busy boulevard. His car began slowly creeping into traffic and he got hit and was killed. Did he have a heart attack? Brake failure? Deliberate? I'll never know. He did have more than his share of personal problems.
