  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I really can't understand why anyone would choose this method. It sounds (in my opinion) like the worst method I can think of. I would imagine if someone seriously tried this willingly and was still able to tell you about it, they would probably tell you it was the worst thing ever.

I've seen videos of people trapped in burning buildings and car wrecks and their screams are bone chilling.

No, but my mother (who passed a few years ago) did light herself on fire. She was saved, suffered severe burns and was in a burns unit for 8 months enduring painful skin-graft surgery. It sounds like an excruciating way to go. My mother ended up dying a painful death, due to cancer. Anyway, I think there are much better (and far less painful) ways to die than burning to death, to be honest.

I'm gathering it was an accident in her case, right?

It is considered THE WORST way to die actually. Would never choose that.

I did it. Burned all my skin and muscle off and now I'm just a skeleton. 0/10 would not recommend.

No, it was a deliberate attempt to end her life in her youth (before I was born). It was no accident. She also attempted to jump off a high-story building (before somebody pulled her back) before that. My mother had to endure a great deal of suffering in this hellhole. I could never compare my pain to hers.

Just did some reading on this because it's difficult to imagine how someone could be desperate enough to resort to using such a painful method.

It's very rare in developed countries, and it's predominantly young married women with a low level of education in the Middle East and South Asia who are burning themselves alive. The most common reasons are family problems, marital problems and domestic abuse. And the countries with the highest rates are India, Sri Lanka, Iran and Egypt. In Iran, about 40% of all suicides are by self-immolation, and 80% of those cases are of young women.
