I have a Long length of rope I bought from Lowe's. I was thinking of jumping from a bridge, with the rope tied to my vehicle and around my neck. Making it easier to retrieve my body, so they don't have to search the ravine below. I'm about 200lbs, if the rope is long enough, 70 ft or so, will it break my neck if I knot it a certain way? Any advice on executing this plan??

Until an expert comments on this, I think you should try to do some calculations. The rope supports a certain weight but if you jump, you start gaining speed and the sudden deceleration at the end can easily snap that rope. You might survive be crippled and in extreme pain for a while under the bridge. You would have to look up these formulas and do the homework or buy a sturdy steel rope.

Thank you for that insight. Maybe I won't use the whole length of rope in that case. I'm pretty set on getting this done today. The fall from the bridge would definitely kill, it's veryy high. I am afraid to jump and smash below, fear of impaling myself idk…the terror of falling several hundred feet., I'd rather break my own neck quickly.

I don't remember the exact distance, but I know that drop hanging was historically generally done with way less than 70ft of rope... Obviously part of that rope will go towards tying knots or other things, but even if the actual drop distance was 50ft that would still be way more than is needed.

I was hoping the length would help to snap my neck…I just want it to be fast and painless. I'm so shattered beyond repair and I don't want to be here anymore. 😭
I'm not smart enough to figure out the math of how to make the hanging work. A feeling I'm sure many also feel here, is being a failure…even failing to kill myself. Maybe I'll just go hang out in a bridge until I muster the will to jump.

I understand this and feel the same way but you have to consider the possibility that if you drop that far the rope might snap as well, which I don't think is really desired. For drop hanging, you want the rope to snap your neck without the rope itself also snapping. This way if something fails, the rope will still kill you via constriction of the carotid arteries.

You won't have to do a lot of calculations - you can find stuff online about how hangings have been carried out historically and learn that way.

Below is a screenshot of the "long drop" section of the wikipedia article on hanging. Lots more information can be found online... at one point I found an archived book on executions or something, it was like a guide for executioners to understand how to kill people.

Thank you for the feedback. I will look into this more. I didn't even consider decapitation. I have degenerative discs in my neck and I'm heavy.
