But there are many knots called the slipknot. Is that the right one?

We can't tell you if anything has 100% work. you need to strength test it to be sure, and you should always strength test because there is a lot to lose if things go wrong.

How do you strength test it?

Use your arm rather than your neck and put a decent amount of force in it. if it can take a good amount of force it's fine, but it's always better to break the material or what it's tied to than your brain.

I don't have anything to hang it to i.e. an anchor point, does that matter?

i'm not sure I'm following the question. You're asking if you can hang without anything to hang from? I don't feel super comfortable giving specifics here but there are guides on the site you can look at.

You can test just with your arms. But if you don't have anywhere to hang, chances are you won't manage just with your own strength.

If you have a rope, use a noose knot
I cant believe it's not the default answer here

I will when I get out of hospital. While I'm still in, I want to practice.

Can one just tie rope, or long bathrobe tie on a closet rod, and use the other end for a slipknot? What would be a reasonable diameter for rope, and any special type of rope better?
