  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

After the NYT article I am finding it harder to find information about suicide. Even a lot of the youtube videos I used to watch now are hidden by age restriction or have been outright removed.

This sounds like a coordinated attack from the media and tech companies to censor discussion about suicide. The only thing that comes up is the prevention hotlines and guilt trippy pro-life articles filled with meaningless platitudes.

Really? I'm not saying I don't believe you but holy fuck if that's true that just boils my blood. Like do they honestly fucking believe suicide doesn't exist at this point? I'm so dumbfounded.

And with this going on there goes any discussion whatsoever about pro CHOICE suicide. I get that they want to delete as much as they can off the web but god forbid you leave ONE place available to freely talk about it. Just fucking sad.

Well, censorship doesnt work. One day or another these issues will be heard. After all, not everyone thinks the same. Someday a therapist or mental health professional, a person, anyone, will step up on these same thoughts and who knows, something happens. Everytime eveything changes, Nothing stays the same. Absolutely nothing. You guys catch it?

But that's partially what makes this place is being able to freely talk about methods. And if it's the fear of legal trouble then this won't be temporary cause these people won't stop. Plus RainandSadness hasn't even answered my questions regarding if you get reported or banned from now on for discussing methods and plus how are the mods going to enforce what is considered method talk? And what about the things that we are still able to talk about? Is there a fine line with that also such as in goodbye threads because anything that's said in those goodbye threads can be considered 'encouraging' by the people outside this forum.

This is unofficial. I dont imagine there will be strikes for posting method threads at least in the beginning for awhile until people get used to it but they will get deleted by mods Instantly. I think goodbye threads and everything else other than method talk will still be allowed. Until there is something official in regards to all your questions then just keep this in mind.

I do not think toxic positivity is helping anything. Other people may see things differently, but this forum is dead to me now. The forum that was once my place is now gone.

2nd page on Google for me, still there. Twitter is 2nd link.
4th link if I type is as "sanctioned suicide . org" adding the .org
Google is always kinda neutral, so interesting to see what happens going forth.

I honestly think it's because a lot of big news outlets have been reporting on this forum. The search engine ranking will prioritize high traffic pages, so it makes sense that the NYT, Vice, etc. publications will take priority in rankings.

That being said...Google, Yahoo, and Bing will eventually blacklist this domain (if they haven't already). The NYT investigation made enough of a splash on social media that companies will be forced to act to appease the public and, most importantly, shareholders.

Also can someone please tell Vice that this forum isn't part of the "deep web" or whatever the hell? Most folks here came here via google searches lol

I still don't understand the point of censoring suicide forums and information. It makes no sense to me.We aren't trying to hurt others, are we? So why do they care what we do on this forum?

I noticed that as well. When I search "sanctioned suicide" the forum doesn't come up at all. I have to search "sanctioned-suicide.net". It's definitely because of the nyt.

Rather it be hard to find on google and have no one care about this place than have everyone care about it, want it shut down and have admins remove the method section for this place just because some stupid teens like to provide evidence to NYTimes that this place provided them the resources by screaming out loud about their deaths here before doing it

ehhh, i doubt it. google is big on censorship of course, but not as much in this sense. gotta squeeze out those ads right?
Google wants to be PC, but they also want to provide users results.

just clickbait.. it's whatever.
all i really don't get about this situation is how is this forum supposed to be harmful... it really is just a political thing :/ i hope there is less of a stigma around suicide someday

You're right ಠ_ಠ I seriously forgot that Youtube exists.

And yeah it really feels like a political issue. It's laughable how US government officials wrote a petition to investigate SS, but no one gives a fuck to make the world a place you don't want to leave. They could invest their resources in making it so that calling a crisis line and being put on a psychiatric hold a not-traumatizing experience. Maybe make mental health care affordable idk. The thing is that that doesn't make careers. Shutting down this forum in the name of suicide prevention is a feel good magic bullet that does nothing to treat why folks choose suicide. It's saviorist bullshit.

EDIT: turns out the article I mentioned in a previous post on this thread was actually about a different site of the same name that was genuinely on the deep web. I can't edit that post anymore so I'm dropping an edit here.

The power to choose to live or die is the most sacred right of all humans. The act of suicide is a rejection of the burden of one's current or future burden of pain. It is a protest against the current trappings of society and against those who have an interest in keeping the power structures as they are. Seen in this light, suicide censorship is a serious encroachment on human rights.

In short, the psychopaths who run the world want to keep you alive to run their torture slave machine jobs so they can live lives of luxury. This has been going on since the dawn of civilization.
