if yes tell them you were messing around to see what it feels like to go unconscious.. that you know it's stupid but heard it gives you a high and you were curious. But you don't remember cutting yourself. No memory at all of it so it wasn't intentional.
if no, then just use the latter about not knowing/remembering how you cut yourself.

Update: I failed, miserably. the method is sound, I was able to pass out but the tie snapped, so if you are going to attempt this use a strong tie or a sturdier ligature.

And as to why it took me this long to update: after coming to I wasn't able think straight and in a fit of rage I tried to cut my wrist and upper arm, and I couldn't cut deep enough to get to an artery. my sister found me bleeding then called an ambulance and I ended up having to get stitches. To top it all off I now have an appointment with a therapist tomorrow, I just hope I don't get sent to a mental hospital. I am convinced that the universe is acting against me at this point.

No one will be disappointed we're just glad you're okay. Is this your first attempt? Partial hanging unfortunately is based on luck imo. I have tried it countless times in the past, I don't think I want to try it again it doesn't seem to work for me. I'm so sorry for what you went through and I hope you find peace somewhere.
