Hey guys, classic depressive case here. You guys know, the works. Already have a solid plan for my passing, and I'm currently writing my card to my family.

I want my way to go to be by a gun. I heavily considered using helium but I heard it's wayy too risky if you don't get the right tank, so I wanna go with a gun which seems to be the less risky option.

I live in Utah, so I will truly live the American dream by buying a gun lol
I'm 20, and according to google, I need to be 18 to buy a gun in Utah.
Problem is that I know nothing about guns, really I know nothing, so I really need a good, cheap, easy to use pistol that you can buy in any good ol American gun shop. That will also have a good chance of not leaving me as a vegetable for the rest of my life. Any recommendations?

You want a shotgun, not a pistol. If you had to go with a pistol, Hi-Points are extremely cheap, and a Hi-Point chambered in .45 ACP - a very heavy and powerful round (for a pistol) - can come down to as low as $180 bucks, maybe even cheaper if you get it used. Check here: https://www.academy.com/p/hi-point-firearms-45-acp-pistol
Add in 10 to 20 USD for FFL transfer fee as well.
Hi-Points have a reputation for not being reliable. That's true, and it would matter if you wanted to put thousands of rounds through it, or if you were in a self-defense situation where seconds count and the gun doesn't go off so you need to re-rack the slide. But they're aren't that common objectively, moreso they appear unreliable to established brands like HK and S&W which basically never have reliability issues whatsoever. And for the purposes of CTB, it's completely irrelevant. If you get the 1 in 100 roll of the gun not going off, just re-rack it.

For shotguns, look no further than the 12 gauge Maverick 88. It's a Mossberg 500 with some of the machined metal parts replaced with mass-produced polymers, but it functions exactly the same. Very reliable, very popular and beloved, and it's also very cheap, at around $200. Check here: https://www.academy.com/p/mossberg®-maverick®-88-security-12-gauge-pump-action-shotgun

This is what I recommend you buy. They are so popular I'm certain you will come across them in Utah. Load it up with 00 Buckshot or Slugs, and you have an instant death provided your aiming is decent.

While I know a shotgun is the best option, I'm not sure who's gonna find my body. I will do it in the bathroom, to make the mess easy to clean, but some member of my family will find me. I'd prefer them to find a more intact version of me rather than one with their head blown off. I'm already gonna traumatize them enough with finding me dead.
I would consider a shotgun if I had some good place to do it besides my home, so the police or somebody else finds me instead of my family.
Thank you for the tip. (Still didn't make me understand how guns work lol, im sure the clerk at the store will help me out in understanding stuff tho)

Curious, how long does one's arm have to be to make a shotgun work for this purpose?

Well the handgun option is a bust, I was told that I need to be 21 to buy a handgun in Utah, but that I can still legally buy a shotgun. I'll guess I'll do that and book a hotel

If you are going to do it with any type of firearm, the best idea if you care about people dealing with your corpse afterwards is to do it outside preferably in a forest if you can. It'll minimize the contact with your body and whoever does find it isn't looking at something very grotesque anymore if you've been there for over a week. It'll also be easier to do than a hotel, but its your choice. I hope you find peace soon. Good luck.
