Hello to everyone.
So I've been prescribed venlafaxine in june 2025 and I slowly went up from 37.5mg to 150mg. At first it went great and was exactly what I needed at the time, with very little side effects. Wrt suicidal ideation, it didn't completely stopped but it greatly diminished and whenever the ideation came, it was like it didn't even make any sense. This was very weird at first because I've been living with suicidal ideation for at least 14 years and suddenly the thought of killing myself was absurd and my brain would simply reject it as nonsense.
However, after some months some side effects began to bother me a lot, mainly irritability and sweating like a pig. I already have craniofacial hyperhidrosis, I live in a tropical country and I do have to walk a lot everyday, so the increased sweating caused by venlafaxine was unbearable. Even short walks would leave my face soaked.
Besides that, I felt like I was becoming too irritated and every little annoyance threw me over the edge.
Because of those reasons I decided to taper off it, and while it took me some good 3 months and a lot of bead counting I managed to stop taking it and it's been almost a month since my last pill I guess.
The problem now is the ideation has come back and I'm feeling very depressed. I have no energy or motivation to do anything, be it study, doing house chores (my house is curremtly an utter mess) or even talking to friends. The feeling of doom and that nothing will ever work out has come back, and even things that gave me pleasure now give me no joy at all. Unfortunately, I cant afford therapy right now, so thats not a viable option.
I guess what I would like to ask is if any of you managed to quit venlafaxine and whether this feeling persists or is it something that goes away eventually.
Is there a way to keep the progress I made while medicated after I stop taking it lol?
I really didn't want to go back to meds, but it's starting to feel inevitable.
Besides venlafaxine, I've already tried paroxetine (for me it was a nightmare), escitalopram (it really helped me with my anxiety and racing thoughts, however it made me VERY sleepy) and bupropion.
