Suicidal or not going missing is the absolute worst for many reasons
1) Your entire private life will now become open public scrutiny by the media, police and public. Everything in your life will eventually come out. Here in the UK where I live a 45 year old mother and dogwalker called Nicola bulley has gone missing and the media coverage here is huge. She was last seen logged in a Microsoft Teams meeting call in a park where she was walking her dog.
On social media the British public are scrutinising everything in her life, her relationship, her job etc and have been going through all her Facebook posts. Her disappearance now has been subject to multiple conspiracy theories. The theories on social media are absolutely disgusting. The theories are the following:
- Her husband killed her even though the police have evidence he was working all day the day she disappeared. The fact the husband wasn't crying and breaking down on his SKY news appearance people think he killed her. I watched his appearance on chanel 5 news and it is so clear this man is devastated his partner is missing and cant explain to his kids where their mother is. His eyes show his pain and hurt. It is so clear he deeply loves his partner
- the husband and Nicola Bulley sister are having an affair and they both killed her
- Nicola bulley faked her disappearance to start a new life
- Nicola, the husband and family all colluded to fake her missing to get money and fame.
- others think she killed herself
- Many people believe think she was abducted. My mum believes this too.
2) Your loved one's will all be treated as suspects by the police even your mothers the police will suspect they caused you to go missing or have killed you. Being investigated by police can be stressful and distressing depending how the officers behave
3) Exploitation. It has happened when people go missing depending on the circumstances people do exploit missing person cases to further an agenda. For example there has been missing persons cases where an individual was murdered by a illegal undocumented immigrant and far right people have used this further their anti immigration beliefs and xenophobia. If its suicide family members were find someone or an organisation to assign blame.
There is no dignity in going missing. Your right to privacy is gone even in death you will not have the dignity of privacy when you become a missing person case everything in your life becomes open for scrutiny.
