I would not advise HIV without medicine, that has to be one of the most painful and drawn out ways there is to go - it would be like dying of starvation and typhoid in a concentration camp plus leukemia.

Ok, but there are strong opiates in the hospital, would you still consider it the most painful way? I don't think so. I am not planning it, just thinking about a way.

Just my experience, from several inpatient stays, strong opiates don't do a damn thing for actual severe pain unless they knock me out. It would just be so long, it's not usually a quick death unless you get a stroke and die from that.

Bad idea,

Having a fatal disease is painful, dirty, slow and ugly.

Just the cotrary to a peacefull death which is what you should lookfor.

I was thinking about how people find this appealing partly because it'll "spare" their loved ones the grief.

Most likely we're talking about contracting something contagious. So what's the plan if your loved ones catch it too?

Well, I guess females could go for toxic shock syndrome. Just leave a bloody tampon in a few days, and you're on your way. It would hardcore suck, but it could look like an accident.

And then you'll forever be known as the gross chick with super bad hygiene!

I've heard of rubbing alcohol soaked tampons inserted into the rectum being deadly. By tampons I mean plural.

Lol, true, but you'll be too dead to care.

Oh my, that sounds awkward to achieve, and quite the story for the doctors if it gets found out.

I don't think it's a bad idea. The good thing is, that you will die in a controlled enviromnent, the hospital bed with access to pain killing management. I think it's a smart way of suiciding to be honest. The only issue is how.

If you are being treated at a hospital then chances are you'll survive (possibly with horrible long-term medical issues/disabilities). Most infectious diseases are only fatal if left untreated...but then you won't have the benefit of palliative care. Usually can't have it both ways.

I thought about getting HIV and refuse to take medicine.

Untreated HIV can take as long as a decade or longer to progress to AIDS. Even then, it can take a couple of years to kill you.

A couple of years ago I had severe abdominal pain. I refused to go to the hospital because I knew I couldn't afford the outrageous bills (and death would have been a bonus). I took a bunch of pain killers and sleeping pills hoping that it would just resolve on its own by the morning. Eventually the excruciating pain and other symptoms (nausea, chills, shakes, trouble breathing, etc) became absolutely unbearable. When I got to the hospital I was diagnosed with a ruptured appendix and sepsis. I obviously lived, fortunately without long-term issues, but I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. It sounds easy in theory, but we tend to overestimate the amount of agony we can withstand.

A similar thing happened to me with pancreatitis. I held off as long as I could, because I thought it was something not worth going to the hospital for. It turned into agony, and I had painkillers but they didn't even touch the pain. At some point, I blacked out and I guess told my son to call 911, even though I wasn't conscious of deciding that. My entire world was just the worst pain, and that's how I always imagine these give-yourself-a-disease scenarios to go.
I think even if you're determined to let it kill you, SI might just take over and you'll get help anyway.
