inspired by the latest news coverage. This site is lambasted for being "pro-suicide" because we accept as part of our core philosophy that suicide is a valid and appropriate choice in certain circumstances. Well, society says homicide is a legitimate action in certain circumstances. In these circumstances people can literally kill someone and suffer no legal consequences. Of course, society isn't really in favor of homicide just because it legitimizes it in certain circumstances and likewise this community (as a whole) isn't really in favor of suicide just because it is a legitimate action in its eyes. Society as a whole is just able to institutionalize the legitimacy of suicide, even though admittedly that makes sense from a clear common sense point of view. Those who accept that and smear this community perhaps deserve the label of "pro-homicide", by their very own logic.

On a related note, if is baffling how it is supposedly okay take someone else's life in your own self-interest (your physically integrity) but you can't take your own in your own self-interest (to end intractable suffering). The issue of grief is a bit to the side because even if you justifiably kill someone you are still probably bereaving some people of someone they would prefer remain alive.

Society is pro-suffering. There is a general acceptance, that suffering is normal. The problem is, that mentality is just applied indiscriminately across a broad spectrum of different circumstances and situations.

If you complain that your suffering is too much to bear, too intolerable, many people just think you're being a quitter and not playing the game in the spirit it was designed to be played. There is also this sense, that we are all in this thing together. Suffering collectively as a species. So if you quit, you're not a team player... hence why we get all this nonsense about "think of your family/friends". Many people just have this ignorant disregard for the individual or subjective nature of someone's suffering. The fact that there is no real equity regarding who suffers and to what degree.

Your ctb sets a sort of dangerous precedent, in the mind of the pro-life/pro-suffering, because they fear many others will realise that they too can liberate themselves from this "collective hurt locker" culture... if they so wish. Nobody is really obligated to suffer for some BS notion of the collective good of society.
