I have a friend who made my life a little less miserable. She was with me at my worst, when I was unable to function, took care of me and helped me to start getting medical help. Honestly I owe her my life. During the recent months.. I actually decided I want to live, although I have been planning to CTB for a few years.

But at the same time she has her own mental issues, mostly stemming from autism and severe trauma. I don't know if she's going to make it, honestly, because recent months have been very tough for her. I know she's contemplating CTB. I honestly see that there isn't much that can be done to improve her life... Way too much trauma. Way too much to work on, she needs years of therapy and perfect environment and that still might not be enough. I was lucky, medication worked for me and solved mamy of my issues, and I found a few things that make me want to hold on for longer. But she's not as lucky as me.

She knows this forum exists because I told her, but I never gave her the link. The thing is, seeing other people's suffering affects her a lot negatively and she probably shouldn't be here. Also this place is technically useless for her since she has her chosen method.

Anyway she's still trying to get better and I'm really proud of her. She has her... Well, original ways of coping with reality, but I'm glad there's anything. Like she's been drawing fish for the recent few months. She has drawn over 200 fish, really, we counted them.one day... and the number is still growing. She's been also giving drawings of these guys on little pieces of paper to strangers, to make their day better because it makes her feel better too.

Today she asked me to post this on this forum. She drew this fishes for the people here on SS, as a gift. So maybe people will feel a bit less alone, because at least there's some stranger thinking about them.

A message from her:
"I love these fishes with all my heart and I hope you will like them too. Wishing you all recovery, or if it's not possible - a peaceful death".

One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish, damn, she really thought of everything!

In all seriousness though, this is really charming and definitely made my day a little bit. When you get to talk to her again, tell her that I like the fishies and I wish you both a safe recovery <3

A person who puts human love, kindness and caring to others in such a wonderful way.

She is just so precious, with intelligence to match the beauty of her.

Lots of HUGE hugs to both of you, as this was just what I needed to read and FEEL today, thank you.

I, too, hope you and your kind friend are doing well, and I wish you both brighter days ahead.
If it's not in the cards for us to speak again, then what else is there to say but:
So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish!

"Thanks for all the fish", is a reference to a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy quote.

As a fisherman of many years I found it touching. It reminded my of a gal I once knew who told me how she had met her husband. She did not want to try to meet people in a bar so she bought some fishing gear and went to a fishing pier and seemed so helpless that the men there fell all over her to help her learn to fish that she met her husband.

Some advice for your friend for trauma;

1. Get some place safe. For children it can take years. When I was 17, I went into the Army.
2. Make a disconnection in your mind from those events and people that caused the trauma.
3. Cultivate those things you can control in a new safe environment.
4. Transform the memories of the past into an understanding that sad and dangerous people of the past were almost prisoners themselves of forces they did not understand or control.
5. Like recovering from a car accident, one may have to adjust to limitations, but healing and therapy can help.

Hell yeah! Another Douglas Addams fan 👋
It's also the name of one of the sequel books, too:
SLATFATF
5 books in total in the series.
By the by, those are all really good tips. Remember: we never know which coping mechanisms will work for us until we try them! So, try them all if you have to: you never know which one will click for you!
