Here's my favourite suicide poem. The author, Michael Dransfield, died of an overdose aged 26.

we are the freaked out capital's strange suicide team

we are the freaked out
capital's strange suicide team

helping each other out of life
or tentatively saving

each other from the razor
from the big question

i had four means of ending me
they searched & confiscated three

i was so smashed when they
searched that they're holding

enquiries but i have
to be reminded

four ways to die
four ways to stay alive

survival is the password
spread it around

let those who want to ride it out
help those who are past caring

who crave
only oblivion's

swift perils

Favourite film?

All the Bright Places was a nice book, wouldn't recommend the film though.

Favourite film would be Withnail & I. Though they cut the actual suicide scene I think it's still strongly implied.

I haven't read the book but I've seen the film and I loved it. It was heartbreaking though and had me in tears but a very good watch still and spreads awareness hopefully :)

Sharp Objects is an HBO miniseries adapted from a book (both very good, but I think the miniseries was better) that isn't primarily about suicide, but it does have one in it. It deals with a few issues many on here may have. The main character is dealing with seriously destructive habits like cutting and alcoholism as a result of her traumatic past. I'm not a cutter but it's truly impressive the way it's portrayed. You'd just have to see it to know what I mean. It goes into her past and why she is that way while she returns to her hometown to write on the murders of some young girls. It shows the pain of the characters in honest and beautiful ways. It's easily one of my favorite shows ever.

In feudal Japan it was custom for samurai to write death poems before they committed seppuku. There are many to choose from, but these two really strike a chord in me:

Like a fossil tree

Like a fossil tree

From which we gather no flowers

Sad has been my life

Fated no fruit to produce

– Minamoto no Yorimasa

"Now we disappear..."

Autumn wind of eve

Blow away the clouds that mass

O'er the moon's pure light.

And the mists that cloud our mind

Do thou sweep away as well.

Now I'm about to disappear,

Wondering how I should grasp it.

From the emptiness I came,

Hence I shall return there.

– Hojo Ujimatsa

Poem: not sure, tbh. Lots of death poems, but not necessarily suicide. Will have to think on that one.

Song: don't listen to music on that theme too often. Probably "Broadway, Here I Come" from the show "Smash". A lot of people think it's about someone achieving their dream of moving to NY and starring on Broadway. It most definitely is NOT that.

Film: Dead Poet's Society. It's not *about* suicide, but the suicidal event is the pivotal moment in the film. It resonates with me a lot.
