mine is probably Requiem for a Dream. it's not about suicide but the way the characters all just slowly descend into despair really effects me. which movies mean a lot to you?

Melancholia, for sure. A film I'm sure a lot of people here would find relatable.

Manchester by the Sea.

So good, but has to be one of the most depressing things I have ever seen.

Antarctica, Eight below. Both about same story and dogs are involved. I dont recomend watching. Story hurt me.

Good guide on what not to do and to take care of our shit before its too late, before we leave, as it all can have terrible consequences for others who are helpless. Painful. But it seems story is true. Even worse.

Bittersweet coffee. Korean movie. I kust remembered it too, was favourite for long time.

Nattvardsgästerna (Winter Light, 1963), by Ingmar Bergman is one of my favorites.

Old Boy is a good one, the whole thing hits hard.

There's also this other movie which I don't remember the name of. But the entire movie is set in a hotel room with an older man and an escort. Pretty sure the escort was a student of the man back in school. They're sat there lamenting over life and past regrets, abuse they've endured.

You think it's leading up to them having sex, but he actually paid the escort to kill him.

If anyone knows the name of this movie let me know.

Roman J. Israel Esq. is heartbreaking and an amazing performance by Denzel Washington. It's not exactly depressing, but it's troubling.

Not the movie I was looking for but this seems very similar. Pretty sure the one I'm looking for was American. Thanks for the suggestion though :smiling:

I like spreading good lesser known movies. I don't have a favorite but a big list of favorites. Here are a couple lesser knowns I think deserve more views.

Tyrannosaur (2011)

Think I mentioned this on another movie thread here, but Der Todesking is amazing.

Also, a lot of Kubrick is depressing. As another guy mentioned here, Bergmann makes good bleak movies. Kurusowa's "To Live" as well.

If you're into black comedy as well, Woody Allen's Love and Death is also depressing as well as comedic.

As an addendum, some of the conclusions and ending to Kurosawa's To Live are bad and downright wrong, I feel I should, it's still a really good movie with a bleakness to it.

I just rewatched that a couple nights ago. So good.
I could think of quite a few, but Only Lovers Left Alive is one of my all time favorites.
